The Latest from Turin
By: Martha | December 27th, 2006
Whenever they can get their whiny Czech to shut up for five minutes, the news out of the Juventus camp is all about the big names they about to bring into the side, be it now or during the summer transfer window. Though to this point it’s been too much talk and not enough action (apart from that whole leading Serie B thing), word on the street is that Argentine midfielder Javier Mascherano is on the verge of signing for the club. Well, either that or he’ll arrive over the summer — either way, he’s totally headed to Turin, at least according to the Italian press.
Mascherano, who arrived at West Ham earlier this year to much fanfare, has been a bit of a disaster in England and, what with his youth, impressive international performances and Italian passport, is something of a human perfect storm for any number of Italian clubs (including Inter and Fiorentina). According to reports, though, Juve are set to spend much more than anyone else, and in the next few days will hand over nearly £6 million in exchange for the player’s arrival in Turin.
Still on Juve’s radar for the summer are the ever-present Miroslav Klose (or Iaquinta or Huntelaar) and Luisao (or Andrea Barzagli). If they can bring in a top-level player at each position AND keep hold of the players who hung around for the Serie B adventure, Juve will be a hell of a threat next year, newly promoted or not.

Lets hope Barzagli stays at Palermo.. the whole Palermo set up reminds me of the Atalanta squad of bygone days full of promising young Italians like the Zenoni brothers, Cristiano Doni and Luciano Zauri (?) that eventually got sold off piecemeal.
