Trezeguet: Lucky in Front of Goal, Not So Much With the Blackmailers
By: Martha | March 13th, 2007
Is this sort of thing rampant in other leagues and the papers just don’t report it, or is Italy the hotbed of footballer blackmail that it seems? (Needless to say, I prefer the second option. Anything to make calcio that much crazier.) Whatever the truth, it’s happened again — this time the player caught in a compromising position with a woman “not the moglie” was Juve’s David Trezeguet, who just can’t stay out of the papers these days.
In order to keep said compromising photos from being published, Trez paid — get this — €25,000 million. TWENTY-FIVE MILLION THOUSAND EUROS. Goddamn. Those must have been some photos, that’s all I’m sayin’. This whole debacle has only become public, as far as I can tell, as a result of an initially unrelated criminal investigation that has something to do with the Gilardino blackmail episode from December — if it wasn’t for the meddling law, the €25,000 million would have done the trick. (Also, a note for Italian-speakers: Does the article really say that someone wants to keep Gila from leaving the country?! Is he in trouble for something? Google is no help here at all.)
In the face of this little payout, Trezeguet’s desperation for a bigass contract takes on a whole new meaning. While he’s surely not surviving on ramen, he’s gotta be a little peeved about losing a chunk of cash that big for doing something so stupid — a big old contract from, say, Inter would probably go a long way towards making him feel like slightly less of a (poorer) ass.
Edit: Thanks to Laurie for helping sort though the translation of the number of zeros on the end of the 25. For what it’s worth, Gila only paid €6,000 for the pics of his little indiscretion, so by the math of blackmail, whatever Trezeguet did was several times worse — begin speculation.

Oh, poor Trez. First he forks over 25 mil, and then it STILL gets into the press. Wonder if they can recover his money for him?
No wonder his form has sucked this year and he’s looked so unhappy all the time. Silly me, I thought it was that World Cup penalty and the Serie B demotion. And no wonder he was speaking so wistfully of a move to Argentina…
Do we have any word on the dates here?

I just checked this out in the French press (okay, that’s too legitimate — it was a French blog) and that blog is reporting 25,000 Euros. Mille is French for “thousand”, maybe it’s the same in Itailian?
The blog also says she was his “mistress,” but who knows how loosely they’re using that term.

Well THAT could certainly be a little less horrifying, Laurie, lemme go play with Google and see if there were some inflationary translations at work.

Ah! You’re right — it seems Google struggles with plural numerical words, I’ll go knock off some digits. Thanks!

The girl with him in the pic is pretty hot. That “mistress” better have been with 25K.

Muddia, I have an even better set of pictures on my France page of her with Thierry Henry’s wife. Click on my name above.
And about that amount. I’m really relieved it was only 25,000. I think that’s the going rate for a mistress. For 25 million I was thinking it would have to be barnyard animals or something.
