Week 7, Or: Holy Crap, Gila Lives!

This week’s big story, clearly, is Milan’s goal-plosion, led by Ricky Kaka and Alberto Gilardino (Wonder how Super Pippo feels about this), who is suddenly back on the top of his game, scoring goals, diving to draw PKs, and getting carded for simulation. Ah, Gila, how we’ve missed you! Yes, the Lazio keep was utter rubbish, but still — five goals is five goals, and even those of us over here in the US could hear the massive sign of relief that escaped the Carlo Ancelotti after that thrashing, particularly since it’s bought him two whole weeks of peace and quiet as we head into the international break.
On the other side of Milan, Inter maintained their unbeaten record and are now three points clear at the top of the table, thanks to Juve’s draw with Fiorentina, the only other team that still doesn’t have a loss. Just behind Milan are Juve and Roma — who strolled past 10-man Parma — both with 14 points, and Fiorentina on 13, just one point clear of Genoa, who kept up their impressive pace with a solid 2-0 win over Cagliari.
Far from the top of the table, meanwhile, Livorno continued their run of comfortable suckage with a 1-0 loss to Catania, and find themselves rooted to the bottom with only two points from seven games. Staggering along two points ahead of them are Reggina, who took a point off Palermo yesterday (and, according to Channel 4’s headline writers, officially sent the Sicilian club into “crisis”), and Empoli, whose five points make last year’s European qualification seem the stuff of the wildest fantasies.

Lazio-Milan 1-5: The win was completely deserved and Gila’s second goal was really, really fantastic, but the Lazio keeper was so bad he better be on suicide watching for a few days. Poor kid.
Palermo-Reggina 1-1
Parma-Roma 0-3: Roma played with 10 men for over and hour and added only one goal during that time. I’m just sayin’.
Siena-Empoli 3-0
Torino-Sampdoria 1-0: CORINIGOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! *ahem*

Gila’s card was NOT a dive. It was actually (for once) a genuine foul. While I admit he dives, this was NOT a dive. And Ambrosini’s goal, was more like a cross, ha. Finally Milan are playing more like Milan… Hopefully they can keep this up.

Mike, I think his dramatic flop for the PK was the real dive — that may have been something of a make-up call.

Ohh. Well, I admit it was a little dramatic, but the keeper did foul him, so they should have gotten the PK anyways. But I was talking about when Gila was actually carded. It was a foul. Gila tapped the ball forward to try to beat the defender, who slid in, and caught Gila and took him down. Should have been a PK, not a “simulation” card.

not to mention that in that particular foul, the defender was the last man and should have gotten a straight red. there were many pathetic calls in the game.

The thing with Gila is that he overreacts, even though it’s a foul he always throws his hands up in the air and act as if he got shot, dive or no dive.

I too will have to back up gila in this case… the first penalty-nonpenalty call was a foul but the ref is a moron… the simulation card was a real foul… and the penalty too was a foul… over-reaction but a foul nonetheless.. for once he actually did not dive… that ref was a moron.. with a normal ref we would have won atleast 7-1 with the bad offside calls and the penalties given and then called off..

The fact that Gilardino has picked up a nasty diving habit is not under debate here (as this video will adequately show). However, that PK was genuine, Muslera missed the ball and took out Gila’s legs. Gila embellished (as he usually does), but PK nonetheless.
