Your Daily, Skullduggery-Tinged Chivu Update
By: Martha | June 25th, 2007
Psst! Cristian Chivu was seen in Milan yesterday — pass it on!
Yes, that’s right: The turncoat Romanian, assumed over the weekend to be moments from signing with Barcelona, paid a visit to Milan yesterday, where he and his agent met with Inter bigwigs and received an offer alluring enough to make him rethink that move to Spain. Allegedly.
According to the latest in the Italian media, Inter are once again front-runners in the Chivu Stakes with their new offer of €14 million, an increase of €3 million over their previous attempted but still several million below Roma’s original asking price. Barca, meanwhile, have supposedly offered only €12 million, propped up by the the bonus feature of defender Ludovic Giuly who has to be worth more than €2 million in his own right. The Gazzetta seems to think Inter will be counting on their ability to win Chivu over through kind words and Turkish Delight (as they did with David Suazo) rather than rushing to outbid Barca, and are expecting that, sometime in the next 24 hours, Chivu will state his preference for staying in Italy.
Speaking of the Gazzetta, their early speculation on a non-Chivu replacement for Inter is Palermo’s Andrea Barzagli, a World Champion who has been linked with a lot of clubs during the past month or so, though Fiorentina and Juve have seemed his most likely destinations. Palermo’s current asking price? €13 million.

Wow, if Inter don’t get Chivu they are actually thinking about getting an Italian like Barzagli! I’m shocked!

Hey man, Mancini SAID he wanted “a bluer Inter!” We all just thought he was kidding at the time. (The Gazzetta is actually talking about Roma going for Barzagli, but the papers have associated him with Inter, too, as you say.)

no, the article says that if Inter can’t get Chivu, they’ll get Barzagli as the alternative. It doesn’t mention anything that says Roma want him, and I doubt they would spend 13 million on him even if they did want him.
from Gazzetta-
Posted from

Rumor has it Chivu turned down Barca to sign a slightly larger contract with Inter, which cost Roma about €5m unless they tell him to go fuck himself and sell him to Spain anyway. He just made himself the most hated person in Rome for €300,000 per year. I expected better from him.
Also, check out tomorrow’s cover of il Romanista. Fab Quags is pimping himself out again because Trez resigned with Juve. Man, he really does not want to play for Udinese. Can’t blame him.

Meanwhile, the British press are full of quotes about his desire to play for Man U. Whooooooooore.
(And it’s not like Udine are total shit. Granted, their ground is a crumbling mess and they have hideous uniforms, but they were in the Champions League just a few years ago … )

Chievo was in the CL last year so that argument goes out the window :)
I’m pretty sure half the reason he doesn’t want to play for Udinese is because Pietro Leonardi prefers to treat his players like prisoners rather than athletes. Also, the fact that they have a fairly quality team (esp their attack) but only managed to finish a short leap from the relegation battle says a lot. The management sucks.
