Kaka Going Spanish? For Real (ha-ha) This Time?
By: Martha | December 12th, 2006
It looks like Milan’s dismal season is making a certain wildly gifted Brazilian midfielder doubt his commitment to the club — and, believe it or not, this story is being reported in places other than Tribal Football. Word on the internet is that Kaka has told Milan VP Adriano Galliani he will leave the club if they fail to qualify for Champions League next year, a goal that currently seems about as attainable as my dreams of growing wings and walking on water. Smelling blood in the water, Real Madrid (who have never given up on signing the boy) have reportedly been in talks with Kaka’s agent/father, and have been hearing nice noises in response to their offers. Very, very nice noises, according to press reports in Spain — so nice, in fact, that Real suits are saying things like “We said we would move to bring Kaka here and that is what we will do.” Well!
This is all a very far cry from all the love being exchanged last season, when Ricky signed that long-term contract — how long is he theoretically committed to Milan? Til 2012? I wonder if that contract had a footer that said something like “*This commitment is ironclad unless the team fails to sign anyone younger than 45 and begins sucking so badly that even Inter fans start to pity them.”
