Disappointing Odds and Ends as Our Prayers for Sex Scandals Go Unheeded

By: Martha | July 8th, 2007

Nico!Yet another weekend passes with nothing remotely scandalous or shocking happening in Serie A. Where is Bobo Vieri when we need him? Actually, where IS Bobo? Where is he playing next year? Or, if we can’t get an answer to that, who is he sleeping with? And are Inter still spying on him? We need answers, and the sooner the better!

In much more boring but also probably slightly more relevant news:

•Alert! Alert! Zinedine Zidane wants everyone to know the Azzurri deserved to win the World Cup. Well. I don’t know about you, but I feel much better now.

•Contrary to popular rumor, Emerson is apparently not returning to Italy this summer after all. His agent recently had a very pleasant coffee with Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic (name dropper), and the two men felt no need to discuss the Brazilian’s future. He’s contract to club through 2009, and is going nowhere.

•Fabio Grosso passed his medical, scored a four year, ludicrously large contract, and will be introduced on Monday as a Lyon player. (Until then, his Wikipedia page is locked. Just so you know.) It’s thought he cost the French club about €7 million, and will earn a completely outrageous €2 million/season. Well, that was easy. You watching this, Cristian Chivu?

•Also on Monday, Milan’s resident waste of space, Ricardo Oliveira, will reportedly make things official with Real Zaragoza, but only in terms of a one-year loan. Rumors indicate Milan will get £1.4 million right now, and if the striker returns to form in Spain and Zaragoza want to make the deal permanent, they’ll have to turn over an additional £7.1 million, an amount which would bring the total to barely half of what Oliveira cost the Rossoneri just a year ago.

•Everyone wants Francesco Toldo as their backup keeper. Everyone in Spain, anyway.

•According to Nicolas Burdisso’s agent, Juve are interested in his client. (Cue Juve denial now.) The defender’s contract with Inter runs through 2009, and the club have offered an extension already, but it’s without the raise Burdisso wants; not surprisingly, his agent is responding to the slight by going to the press and talking about any club whose name pops into his head.

•Gianluca Pagliuca has told Il Romanista that he’d love to spend next year with Roma (In large part because his son is a big Totti fan — isn’t that sweet?) — you know, assuming they want a 40-year-old keeper and everything. As thrilling as this story is, though, the real reason I’m sharing it with you because “Pagliuca” translates as “Dust particle,” a glorious accident of Google translate which results in sentences like “Dust particle would not have doubts.”

•The Daily Show airs on CNN International. Does Rupert Murdoch know?

•As teams make plans for their summer training tours, we find out how they really feel about certain players. Inter, for example, are at least pretending they’re keeping Adriano around because, despite previous concrete plans to the contrary, the striker will be with the team when they open camp in Sardinia tomorrow. Lazio, meanwhile, are unofficially cutting ties with Luis Jimenez, who has been acting weird all summer and essentially forced his own departure from the club: He won’t be on the plane when the team leave for Austria tomorrow and will probably spend next season on loan somewhere.

inter.it (Italian version) has actually posted photos of Adriano exercising in Rio with an Inter trainer (not unlike Ronaldo?), including the obligatory beach workout.

Now we just gotta figure out if it’s legit or staged for the camera.

That’s fascinating about Emerson. Does that mean that the crowd has stopped booing him every time he steps on the pitch at the Bernabeu? Or is the coffee in Spain just really good?

And as much as I felt sorry for Ricardo Oliveira, what with his sister kidnapped and all, it just wasn’t happening in Milan. OK Adriano, you’ve freed up some space, now you just need to fill it!

And where are those sex scandals anyway?

RT, I did read recently that he was, in fact, working out with a trainer, but was scrapping that to just come to camp. (Like you, I’m not sure I believe it.)

Ady, since Real fans seemed to spend a lot of last season booing Emerson anyway (The fools!), I’m not sure it’ll be any different. That said, let’s see if the guy actually ends up staying — there are many, many weeks left for graceless changes of plan, right? Perhaps he needs to spend some time in the cafes of Milan before he decides for sure …

Bobo is currently hanging out at his villa on Formentura along with a handful of friends and his current squeeze, 21-year-old Melissa Satta. Its been some 12 months since they’ve been together, so is this it? Is it lurve …. ?? See http://www.olycom.it, enter Vieri in the ‘cerca’ field and the photographic evidence is there in abundance. As for finding a football club, when you are a multi-millionaire with a fit young woman on your arm …. what’s the rush??? Manchester City (ho-hum) will eventually come calling ……………….

Ah, Julie! Brilliant, thank you. I had no idea they’d been together so long — could Bobo be maturing on us? Say it ain’t so!

Julie, that site is completely brilliant! Thank you! They have a nice collection of Pippo pics as well and I imagine a few others too. If only I didn’t have to go to work…

Martha, as a bit of a cloiset Bobo fan (… some might say stalker, but hey-ho!!), the real scandal with him happened 12 months ago when he stole the lovely Melissa from his friend, Daniele Interrante. They had to come clean when they were photographed entering separately and leaving separately, a 1-star hotel in the centre of Milan, but they were there – together!! I don’t know what is more shocking. What Bobo was up to, or that as a multi-millionaire he choose a 1-star hotel for his ‘liaison’. Anyway … Daniele was left broken-hearted stating that Bobo “was no gentleman”, and the newly-established love-birds walzed off in the sunset and have been together ever since. The damning photographs are also on http://www.olycom.it which is a fantastic source for pictures of all our favourite italian football stars both at play and …. well, at play!! (I secretly still hope he gets back with Elisabetta Canalis … but I am an old romantic fool).

(Julie, clearly the two of us need to be hanging out.)

Poor Daniele. But, really, he ought to know better than the let anyone he’s dating meet Bobo. Because, at that point? It’s gotta be pretty much game over, no?

And I, too, want him to get back together with Canalis, but mostly because the two of them together are hot enough to melt … things that resist melting for the most part. Steel?

Martha – indeed I think we could be at the start of a very beautiful friendship. Do you remember those very tight azzurri tops the team wore at the 2000 European championship? (Ah the memories … bliss). Well … I have one signed by Bobo. I like to think it once adorned his marvellous pecs, but the manufacturer tags still attached kind of give the game away a bit, ie. not! I have assurances though that the signature is genuine and to think he touched something that now belongs to me ………………. There was also one time I was walking down the avenue to the San Siro when the Inter team bus passed, but had to slow right down, and I could make him out sitting by the window – so I waved …. AND HE WAVED BACK!!! (OK… there was also a crowd of about 100 people round me, but it was ME that the wave was directed to.)

Julie, I’m only replying to this now because it took me that long to be able to type again after hearing that you a)own something Bobo touched (god only knows where his hands had been right before, of course), and b)have been waved at by him.

The only problem is this: With all that happening already, where does your life have to go from here? (:
