Lazio Move on in Champions League

Lazio pulled off a miracle today in Romania, coming from 1-0 down at the half (and a 2-1 aggregate deficit) to beat Dynamo Bucharest 3-1 and advanced to the group stage of the Champions League.
In addition to the insane number of players they’re missing through injury, Lazio went into the game without the suspended Massimo Mutarelli and Valon Behrami, both of whom were sent off during an ugly first leg match, marred by racism and fan violence (not to mention a missed Lazio penalty and three red cards). In a sold-out, wildly hostile ground (Lazio supporters were advised not to make the trip, and some of those who did reportedly were met with violence) going down 1-0 was the worst possible start, and anyone could have been forgiven for writing the Roman club off, particularly giving the magic worked by Dynamo keeper Bogdan Lobont on the last leg.
Somehow, though, things completely changed in the second half, and reports make it sound like the Dynamo goal was under siege nearly the entire time. The Romanian club gave away a penalty early in the half — which Tomasson Rocchi managed to convert this time — and, within 20 minutes, Lazio were up 3-1, though a goal from Goran Pandev and a second by Rocchi. Nothing to it, apparently.
So that’s four Italian clubs through the group stages. Hate Lazio all you want, but it’s good for Serie A.*
*Good, that is, if Lazio — or UEFA — can get their fans to stop the racist chanting. If they can’t, They need to be kicked out, both for the good of the tournament and of Serie A, a league whose reputation doesn’t need any more tarnishing.

unfortunately, lots of clubs in italy act just as shameful. agree on all fronts, martha. this is great for serie a, but if we’re going to continue with racist chants and monkey jeers and whatever the hell else at any italian ground, then just ban the fu*****. as a napoli fan, i’m fully aware my tifosi partenopei are fully capable of the vilest, most disgusting behavior.
let’s hope our fans behave and our squads kick a little ass. would love to see at least three out of four serie a squads make it out of the group stages. draws are on thursday. game on, baby. game on.

Fingers crossed for this team and Lotito. I don’t care how they acquit themselves on the pitch. Just please, please get your fans in order.

I am happy to have the 4 clubs still in the competition, but Lazio are hanging by a very thin thread. Repeat offenders do not get seen with a very kind eye… UEFA might take the extreme measures next time.

haha. just kidding. It’s really sickening how bad people can be. But at the same time, you can’t kick out only the chanters, because you cant see who’s doing it and who isnt. It’s either everyone’s out, and they lose loads of money, or everyone’s in, and there’s violence and racism. sadly, I doubt anyone wants to lose loads of money…Posted from
