Nesta Interrupts Sunbathing to Announce He’ll Stay in Milan
By: Martha | February 15th, 2007
Usually I can sense it when footballers are in the US (My instincts are particularly good when it comes to the clients of that one surgeon in Colorado. What can I say? It’s a gift. Well that and the English papers are obsessed with him and report every visit in great detail.), but it somehow totally escaped my attention that one Alessandro Nesta is in Miami, doing rehab on his shoulder. Actually, at least according to our friend Google Translate, he must be a frequent visitor because he owns a house in Miami — and not just a house, the place is “a beautiful palace, but not sfarzoso, because Nesta hates to appear.” Heavens no — never the sfarzoso!
He’ll have been in Casa Nesta West for nearly three full months by the time he heads home, but Nesta wants everyone to know that he really is coming back. And yes, it was necessary to say this, because apparently there have been rumors that he’s going to say “Forget my career, I want to be warm. And maybe play in MLS.” and just stay in Miami forever. No lie — even Nesta has heard them, way over here in the States, so you know it was bad. But there’s no need to panic, ladies: He’ll be back in Milan by the end of the month, and would like to stay with the club for another four years. Despite persistent rumors to that contrary, Nesta insists he’s got no interesting in returning to Lazio to end his career there, and will instead being negotiating an extension with Milan — he’s currently signed thought 2008 — as soon as he gets healthy and doesn’t feel like he’s being an ass for asking to be paid for being hurt.* So there you have it: Once he gets home, he’s not going anywhere. (At least not for a while. Probably.)
*He didn’t use those words, exactly, but he did say he does think it’s appropriate to negotiate when he’s not playing, which is a sign of such remarkable good sense that it’s hard to believe it came from a footballer.

I was wondering what the heck was happening with him. I’d heard in January he’d be back in the beginning of March, but at this point, I’m just happy he’s coming back at all. And with a lovely tan to boot.
Oh and the picture of sultry Nesta–thanks. The Kaka and Gila pics of recent days weren’t really doing anything for me. Now if only we could get Canna back in the news… (for something good, of course)

He could team up with Romario and lead Miami to US second division glory.

Hee. Google Translate was particularly hilarious on this one. The Nesta, she must love it.
I think I’m the exact opposite of you, Martha, in that grumbly, nagging footballers never fail to amuse me. Among many other reasons, I love this man for his unabashed petulance. Whether it’s the vagaries of Google or no, anyone who can say something that can even be mistaken as “And then if in Italy you often say intelligent things you come misinterpreted” earns my vote.
Oh, Sandro.

I’m definitely not going to say I hate all the grumbly, self-righteous fooballers, roswitha (hell, Figo fits that description from time to time!), but I have never been a Nesta fan. He often seems so casual to me on the field — like he just assumes he doesn’t need to focus because he’s The Great Nesta and will be able to get it done no matter how careless he is. Which bugs the HELL out of me.
Yes, I dislike him because of what I’ve decided he’s thinking. It’s sad, I realize.Posted from

He would be wasting his career if came to the MLS, but if he did, at least we would see more of him.
Anyway, what is “sfarzoso”?

It might mean lavish, Niloo, but that’s a total guess — when Google can’t figure it out, I’m in the dark.
