Lies! All Lies!
By: Martha | May 15th, 2007
Well, Tuttosport (AKA Juventus’ fantasy media mouthpiece) is up to its old tricks again, it appears. This morning the paper confidently reported an agreement to take Roma’s Cristian Chivo to — gasp — Juve was only moments away: According to the article, the defender had already agreed personal terms with the Old Lady, and a €15 million bid for his services was on its way to Rome. Unfortunately for Juventus, however, the report seems to have little basis in reality, at least if you believe Chivu’s agent. He denies speaking either to Juve, or to “any party, either in Italy, or Spain, or any other place for that matter.” In fact, he was just getting ready to talk about an extension with Roma. So there.
The other Turin lies are coming not from a paper, but from a player: David Trezeguet, who has hardly stopped complaining since the club wouldn’t let him leave post-Calciopoli, is suddenly waxing rhapsodic about Juve in the French press, telling them how committed he is to the club. Really, does anyone believe him at this point, particularly given the unpleasantness after last summer’s relegation? The only thing I can think of is that he knows for sure he’s being sold, and therefore is now at liberty to say any fawning thing he wants in an effort to make himself look good, since he’s already on his way out.
