Mancini Names Transfer Wishlist; Serie A Convulses With Laughter

By: Martha | April 25th, 2007

GigiThough I can’t find it anywhere else, Tribal Football is reporting on a “forum” of journalists held yesterday, during which Inter’s Roberto Mancini laid out his idea transfer list (probably based in equal part on fantasy and on the players his club are actually trying to buy).

According to the report, Mancini’s most wanted are Gigi Buffon (join the club, Roberto), Daniele De Rossi and Luca Toni, all of whom would be on the lists of pretty much anyone at a big European club — no surprises there. What was surprising, however, was Mancini’s assertion that the point was less about the names of their players than their nationality: “I want to sign, above all, Italian players to improve the team.” BWAHAHHAHAHAAA!!!!! HAAAAAAA!!!!

Ahem. Sorry about that. Um, Roberto? Have you looked around your team lately? I think we need to assume that he a)was joking, or b)meant “Argentine” when he said “Italian.” If it’s not one of those I’m afraid the man has lost his mind, because someone from Inter saying they’re trying to sign Italians is as absurd as, I don’t know, Arsene Wenger talking about his dream of an all-English starting lineup.

haha very nice post the signing italians part was priceless i dont think you could buy that kind of comedy! inter has a total of 33 players and only 7 of them are actually italian haha so i really must agree that he meant Argentine or he has completely gone insane!

But there is the old saying (due to massive immigration back in the day) that an Argentine is an Italian who speaks Spanish and thinks he’s English. In other words, many Argentines are the sons and daughters of Italian immigrants (who just happen to wish they could rock out to Oasis and Blur more often). Maybe Mancio sees Argentines and Italians as all being from the same bloodline in the end.

Man, I hope he meant Argerntine, and by meaning Argentine I hope he really meant Lionel Messi. Him & Quaresma, and throw in De Rossi too …. I’d take GiGi any day, but the $50 Mill they want want for him can go elsewhere, especially since (I think) Julio Cesar is a good keeper. Damn transfer rumors….. I HATE THEM!

I really dont see what is so damn funny about Mancio saying he wants to sign Italian players. It is true that the team is composed of many Argentines but why that should make a difference to who the manager wants to bring in mystifies me.

Each player on that “list” is a high quality player and I think they would be a great addition to the side.

    Forza Inter!!
    Forza Italia!!
