Mancini Positions Himself for a Move (or a Huge Contract)

By: Martha | January 26th, 2007

Roberto Mancini, ThinkerLondon’s The Sun is absolutely loving the whole “Will They or Won’t They?” thing with Robert Mancini and Jose Mourinho. Today’s on-line version of the paper features a full three articles on the Chelsea drama, including one in which Crystal Palace manager Peter Taylor (whose authority on Mancini stems from managing the Italian’s four games for Leicester in 2001) confidently reveals that Mancini would be perfect for the Premiership. Well! I wasn’t sure before, but now? I’m totally sold. Thanks, Peter.

For his part, meanwhile, Mancini is echoing Taylor’s sentiments. In an interview he allegedly gave someone from The Sun (I’m suspicious because some of the quotes are from a few weeks ago, but others are unfamiliar, so they could be new), Mancio said he would “Love to manage a Premiership side one day,” and that Chlesea would be “perfect.” Are you listening, Mr. Moratti? That’s the sound of your manager flirting with others. Start adding zeros to that contract.

In addition to these (possibly dubious) interviews, The Sun also offer a pair of other tidbits:

1)None of Mourinho’s assistants have had their contracts renewed, and his right-hand man is telling people that he’s leaving, which suggests Mourinho is also on his way out;

2)If Mourinho leaves and ask scoring machine Didier Drogba to come with him, Drogba says he “wouldn’t simply follow him anywhere but if he left and wanted me then I’d only have to ask myself a few questions.” Drogba at Inter? Be still my goal-loving heart.
