Matchday 35: A Short Weekend Preview with a Guaranteed-to-Be-Wrong Prediction

By: Julian | April 30th, 2011

Holy crap. After this, there are just three more rounds of Serie A action before the summer. Since this may be the second to last ever season of calcio, we really should take the time and enjoy it.

Probable Game of the Weekend

Lazio-Juventus. The last game of the weekend is most certainly the one with the biggest ramifications. Should Juventus win, Lazio will be at serious risk of missing out on the Champions’ League, assuming that Roma win away to Bari and Udinese away to Fiorentina- two games that will also be quite tough.

Probable Borefest of the Weekend

Catania- Cagliari. Both teams are in awful form, each with only 1 win in their last 5- and those were four matchdays ago. Catania are averaging less than a goal per game, which is probably why they’re 16th. The side do need to points to ensure they aren’t relegated but they may seek the draw mentality and go for a single point rather than gambling for all three and potentially getting none. If you’re going to skip one game this weekend, it probably should be this one.

And now that I’ve put this here, expect it to be a goal fest and one of the best matches Serie A has ever seen.

Things to Watch For

  • Milan could win the Scudetto this weekend but need Inter to drop points away at Cesena, a rather unlikely scenario. The Scudetto will most likely be official next weekend, assuming Milan win their next two games.
  • Should Sampdoria beat Brescia and Lecce win away to Chievo, Roberto Baggio’s former team would be all but down; They would be 8 points behind safety with only 9 points left to play for after this weekend.
  • The Capocannoniere race is far from over. Both Edinson Cavani and Toto Di Natale are on 26 goals, neck and neck as they’ve been all season.

  • Wait, you're assuming Milan are going to win over Roma? That's one way to prove you're not biased!! ;)

Loved the link, now I really have to make every game count. Is there any way that the world could end but calcio go on forever?
