Matrix: Not Going to Spain

By: Martha | May 16th, 2007

Sweet, innocent Matrix.Though I can’t find the damn article, Spanish sports paper Marca apparently reported this morning that Barcelona are gazing lustfully in the direction of one Marco Materazzi — or, in the words of Google translate, “it wants to reinforce its rear package.” So to speak. According to the article, the Powers That Be at the club feel an emotional shakeup is needed in the team, and to that end their initial primary summer target was set to be Edgar Davids. Something went wrong there, however (Maybe they suddenly realized he’s 34 years old?), and the Spanish side quickly set its sights on Matrix, who is a mere 33 years old and possesses the power both to infuriate opponents and also to execute a perfect bicycle kick.

Needless to say, birthday boy (He’s 62!) Massimo Moratti immediately nixed any possible deal, even as he agreed “that many teams, not just in Italy but also abroad, are interested in Materazzi.” “But,” he said, “Materazzi is an Inter player and I am very proud that he’s here.” Aw. That’s sweet. Though it’s hard not to think, were Barca to come around splashing the Euros, that Moratti would listen. Matrix has become incredibly important to the team, yes, but he’s also 33 years old and won’t be around forever. If they could sell him to someone desperate enough to overpay, it might not be a terrible idea.

Also: I leave tonight for about 36 hours of hardcore meetings/work dinners/plane rides. You probably won’t hear from me again until sometime on Friday, which means you’ll have to surf for p0rn a WAG of the Week yourself. (If you get desperate, start here, with “Togliergli the pants.”) My apologies — it won’t happen again. Ever.

Just devastating news Martha. How will get throught the afternoon? BTW, no mention anywhere that the Azzurri remain number one. Two straight months, might be a record for them.
