Midweek News, Or: For the Last Time, Lippi is NOT GOING TO MILAN!
By: Martha | November 15th, 2006
Sorry for the shortage of updates today, I’m swamped at work. (If real life keeps me from watching the game today, let me tell you, heads will roll.)
•The U-21s drew with the Czech Republic last night 0-0. In the few bits I saw it was hard to get a real sense of the game, but the wee Azzurri certainly looked solid defensively. The papers were particularly pleased with Andreolli, Mantovani, Nocerino and Palladino, all of whom got lovely, arbitrary 6.5s. The best translation of the bunch is of the praise for Palladino, which is as follows: “Much piece of furniture is made to appreciate with some effective ones re-enters to centrocampo. It outside tries without fortune the conclusion from area to the 29.” Honestly. That made more sense to me in Italian, when I only understood “centrocampo.” Who knew that being compared to furniture was a good thing?
•Seriously you guys — that’s enough. Marcello Lippi is totally not breathing down Ancelotti’s neck for the Milan job, so quit asking! Jeez. All he’s doing is sitting around, not thinking about football. Really.
•In Inter news, meanwhile, those not on international duty have been working hard today in training.
•Contrary to popular opinion, Christian Vieri is, in fact, still a going concern. Sadly, however, he won’t be “going” any time soon. Instead, he’s headed to the operating table of that one surgeon in Colorado all footballers are apparently required to see when they need knee operations. The current plan is to have him back in training with Atalanta by February. Alrighty then. We’ll believe that when we see it.
•Massimo Oddo couldn’t care less if Milan want him to decrease the average age of their defense. Well, at least not right now — he digs life in Rome, but would be much happier if Lazio would offer him a new deal (for, one assumes, really a lot of money) sooner than later. If not, well, when the current contract runs out in 18 months, and they might just be seeing the back of him then.

ahhhh why is Giuseppe Rossi on the bench for???????????????????????????????????????
And then he comes on and plays very good and creates the best chances for the team
Do you think its becasue hes playing his football in england?? I mean look at Zola, when he went to Chelase no one in italy wanted to know about him any more

To be fair, Marco, though Rossi is playing more at Newcastle (who are dreadful and have injury problems up front) than he was with Man U, he’s not exactly setting the world afire there. It’ll be interesting to see if he actually gets to contribute for the U-21s once he gets some more games under his belt and settles in (read: starts scoring), or if he’ll vanish like all non-ex-Juve players outside Italy.

I feel sorry for Vieri.. i would have loved to see him play at the WC even though he would have been on the bench majoritly at least he would have been apart of the eventual win afterall he did for the azurri in the past 2 world cups
