Milan Finally in Camp, Still Not Over Sheva
By: Martha | July 23rd, 2007
Unlike there rest of Serie A, most of whom have been busting their asses at least twice a day in training camp, Milan’s players have spent the last week soaking up those last rays of sunshine, drinking a final mojito or four, and wrapping up their vacations. Such is the luxury, apparently, of the Champions League winners — who needs training when you’re the best in the world?
Today, finally, the vacation is over (for most of them — Paolo Maldini is still in Miami, lounging in the sun, and Dario Simic is God knows where) and work has begun. Despite having a team they claim can win it all again in camp, though, the Milan brass still can’t give up their dream of getting Andriy Shevchenko back. In fact, just days after they were rumored to be offering a zillion Euros to buy out Ronaldinho’s contract, the Rossonero have allegedly increased their offer for Sheva to £13.5 million, and placed a July 31 “deadline” or working out a transfer agreement for the player. (Excuse me if I laugh heartily at this line in the sand. As if Berlusconi will ever let this the man go.)
Now, if the rumors that Roman Abramovic will let Sheva go for £15 million are true, with that offer Milan are very close to getting him back in red and black. That said, it remains hard to believe that Chelsea would let a man they spend £30 million on a year ago leave for half that price, even if the sale wasn’t to the club they bought the guy from in the first place. I mean, that’s a £15 million profit for Milan — not bad for 12 months work.
For his part, Sheva just returned with his teammates from LA, and doubtless will soon be telling us again how happy he is with the London club.
Edit: Yet another new story from Berlusconi. If he keeps this up, Milan as a whole may soon may end up (along with Cristian Chivu) in the pile of things we don’t talk about because it’s all lies.

i just read that he finally said that he gave up on sheva because, “chelsea put insurmountable obstacles in our path” right… http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jul23j.html
eventhoh i have heard this crap before, i havent heard it directly from the donkey’s mouth (a horse is an animal much to graceful to be compared to berlusconi)… he didnt however name our next targets besides the ones already mentioned(pato) and i thank god coz all this damn publicity is givin us a real bad name… jeez it even made you compare us to inter (vomit).. we should be working in the background..

Agreed Milan should be working in the background, but I think part and parcel of the season for Milan is to be out in the open with all the rumours. Having Milan’s name tied in the papers to a host of ’sexy’ transfers helps keep the name of the club out there and, at least temporarily, puts the tifoseria at bay.
Of all the big clubs in Italy, I actually like Milan. I think I realize now that maybe I like most of these clubs because, until recently, I haven’t paid much attention to the crap they dish out.

The donkey always says random crap like that k, it just changes daily — I don’t think Berlusconi lives in the same reality as the rest of us; to him, everything he says is the truth, no matter how directly it contradicts something he said only days before.
Joe, can you pinpoint when you prefer Milan to Inter or Juve, or is it a gut thing?

Come on Martha.. Can one not like Milan for their game and grace and not a gut thing?
Milan, i think, are the right up there when it comes to the quality of football. But when it comes to transfer deals and president talk, they might not have had much trainin there..Posted from

yeah but in the past years we have always had some class in the transfer market and have worked in the shadow, without inappropriate admissions of man-crushes on players of other teams and such… and berlusconi was too busy screwing the country to be paying too much attention to milan… i have noticed that for the general fan, milan is usually the most likeable team amongst the bunch… or maybe i just have selective hearing

Hrishi, one totally can — even I will admit they play lovely football, more often than not. I should rephrase the question: What I’m really trying to get at is the reason people who either love smaller teams or are semi-neutrals tend to hate Inter but be ok with Milan (as k says). What’s wrong with Inter, dammit?

Rumors are great to create conversation but some of them are so ridiculous. Chelsea is not going to give Sheva back to Milan for half of what they bought him for a year ago. Abromovich would rather eat the money then do that because it looks so bad. I think Milan needs to pay between 20-25 million for it to happen. If Sheva stays in does ok for Chelsea this year, they can get 15 million for him this time next year.
