Milan Follow Roma’s Fall, Won’t Be Gifted a Prince

By: Julian | March 10th, 2011

Following Roma’s humiliation at the hands of Shakhtar, AC Milan have been knocked out of the Champions’ League by Tottenham.

In all fairness to Milan, they probably did not deserve to go out. They dominated away at the Spurs and just could not get a goal. More worryingly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic did almost nothing to shake off his reputation as a big game choker, and there are worrying signs that Alexandre Pato may be following suit. However, the side were not humiliated, unlike how they bowed out last year:

Thiago Silva is looking more and more like one of the best center-backs in the world. If Milan can reinforce their aging defense a bit, and should Ignazio Abate continue his fantastic rise, they could easily be real threats in Europe next year. Their performance yesterday was one of true grit and merit, dominating possession and having a ball cleared off the line by William Gallas.

However, Milan may have more problems on their hands if they think Boateng will just be handed to them. The player is on loan from Genoa and president Enrico Preziosi claims that he is not a free gift:

Galliani knows very well that we will not give away the player. There won’t be problems with the sale [presumably to Milan, this summer] but for sure we will not just give him to the club.

Kevin Prince has been a huge success for the side since his loan move, and Milan seem to be in the driver’s seat for his full purchase- but don’t expect it to be a cheap one.

in all fairness to milan, last year they faced a tougher opponent. and they didn't have any of these younger, quicker players. but they should have won, or at leat taken it to penalties. bad year for serie a. Inter, our hopes come crashing down with your loss. (Ewww...i feel a little dirty for saying that) Forza Juve!

Without Boateng that midfield would be the old-age home it used to be.
