Milan in For Terry?
By: Martha | May 3rd, 2007
According to that bastion of journalistic integrity known as The Sun, Milan are eying Chelea’s John Terry as the solution to their “Oh My God We’re So Old!” problem in the back. Though the rumor of Terry fleeing to Italy has been around for a while, this is the first time Milan have been associated with his name, and they’re reportedly ready to drown him in money in an effort to win his signature.
If The Sun is to believed (a long shot, I realize), negotiations between Chelsea and Terry have broken down over the club’s unwillingness to pay him the obscene £121,000/week wage Shevchenko and Ballack have been earning since their arrival in London, offering a mere £110,000 instead, which Terry has reportedly turned down. (In a way, there’s something to admire in the slight stand being taken by Abramovich, who may be coming to his sense a bit — albeit just a little, and way too late — when it comes to player salaries.)
Taking advantage of Abramovich’s sudden sanity, Milan are allegedly stepping in to offer Terry £120,000/week, as well as a spot on a team that is in the Champions League final. Ahem. The is the little stumbling block of the player’s current contract, though, which pays him £70,000/week and runs through 2009; Chelsea want £25 million to part with him, which would be a pretty penny, even for Milan. Terry could, however, buy his way out of the contract, a loophole that would end up netting Chelsea significantly less than that £25 million price tag were he to depart.
This is probably all a lie but, on the off chance it’s not, I’m not sure I like it. The idea of seeing Terry in Italy at all is odd to me: He seems a very British centerback, and I’m not sure he’d settle in quickly, if at all. That said, though, he’s still only 26 and would represent a significant injection of youth for Milan.

I saw that in the Sun and didn’t get it at all. I don’t see Terry fitting Milan’s style of play, even if he is much younger than the average Milan player. (Besides, I find the rumors that if Mourinho goes, Terry may follow him much more believable than this.)

Works for me. Terry would settle fine anywhere in the world. Nesta is the ‘mobile’ back, as scary as that sounds. Terry is a more positionally sound than often credited, and provides an added dimension in the air (both on D and O), which Milan don’t posses - free kick sinking feelings anyone? But that price is too high - better spent on added depth. Ferrari would be a nice companion in the back for Nesta tho….

Would rather bring back Sheva than Terry though. Milan does not have much problem in the back while Gila and Oliveira seem rather disappointing this far.
