Milan’s Signings Never Stick, And Their Keeper Still Sucks
By: Martha | January 4th, 2008
God, it just goes from bad to worse for Milan.
First there was that David Suazo debacle last summer, when they totally signed a useful goal-scorer, only to have him turn around and join their city rivals for less, just because he’d said yes to them first. Then, they very nearly signed Theirry Henry! Except, of course, they didn’t, and he went to Barcelona instead. And now, just to twist the knife deeper into the side of Milan fans everywhere, Luca Toni has revealed that, like Suazo, he also signed with them last summer — before going elsewhere. Wow, that’s gotta hurt. There’s no indication of why he changed his mind (or why people who sign contracts with Milan do so with disappearing ink), but if you’re a Milan supporter, it’s probably best to ignore the whole thing, and go back to piling all your hopes on poor Pato’s back.
When it comes to players Milan actually managed to sign and keep, meanwhile, Ronaldo is back on the pitch again (Yay!), and Dida has been a disaster in training (Boo!). You know I don’t put much stock in the results of training matches, but giving up six goals in one of them is never a good thing, no matter who you are, or what defense is in front of you. And it gets even worse when two of them were scored by Christian Brocchi, and fully half of the six were reportedly due to goalkeeping errors. Oh, oh dear.
Not to worry, though, Cafu says Dida’s “the number one [keeper] in the world,” and if Cafu’s happy … Oh, wait, this is Cafu we’re talking about. Never mind. It’s well past time to worry.

Maybe they really are out of money and putting a brave face on it. Oh, how touching! See their little grimy faces, tear-streaked and raised to the sky! Oh, the Interista boots grinding them down! Oh, the humiliation! Oh, the humanity! They might as well just give that European Cup back already since they were never supposed to be in that tournament anyway!*
Anyway, all I care about is that you’ll stay committed to providing news and views on them in English even if they go down to Serie B. Promise us, Martha, for friendship’s sake.
* - that was unrelated to the rest of the thing, I know, but I just wanted to say that before someone else got in with it.

Is Cafu retarded? I know he made those comments because Dida is his friend but that is absurd. Dida sucks. Milan is crashing in front of our eyes. Did I mention Dida sucks and that acting job against Celtic was pathetic. Dida is a coward and he doesn’t even deserve to play in the MLS. He should go to Flamengo with fat ass Ronaldo…oh wait Flamengo wouldn’t want him.
PS I hate you Dida….you scumbag :)

Roswitha, I suddenly find myself tearing up, and wanting to send my spare pennies to poor Berlusconi. Is it too late to save them? (I do hereby pledge to continue to cover Milan, even if they go down, if I am, in fact, still breathing in the year that happens.)
And god, yes, anything involving Jimenez staying longer is good. Though that article doesn’t actually include much information, does it? More just a rehashing of what it would take for him to stay — I’ll look around and see if I can find it anywhere else.

Johnny I actually just read something about Milan eyeing Flamengo’s keeper, so you might be on to something there, albeit in a very angry, roundabout sort of way.

Daniele, your point #2 is something I’d not thought about — I wonder if Pato or his handlers have.

Martha I saw that too about Milan checking out Flamengo’s keeper. Maybe they can get him to sign a contract for them with invisible ink.
Thanks for the entertainment Milan.
Forza Inter

I think is suffice to say their long term planning is far to long, because relying on 38 year old center backs and a midfield that should retire in 2-3 years really will no win you much after their prime has come and gone. Uncle Fester is gonna have to start piecing a team together without upsetting all of the old farts he has sitting around still playing.

Of course it’s not too late to save them — if we shore up enough change, they can buy Ronaldinho the wonder cure. And I, for one, would welcome our new buck-toothed overlord.

On a positive note (for us Dida-haters) Ancelotti said that he thinks Kalac is looking good if Dida doesn’t shape up. I’m paraphrasing of course, but that’s the gist of it. (Apologies if this has already been blogged about elsewhere on the site.) Hell, Kalac couldn’t do any worse…
I’m done defending my team. I think we’ll be lucky to see a UEFA cup spot next season. I don’t think they’ll end up in B, but if they do I’m going to have to find another team to fill the void. Sampdoria, anyone?

If Fiorentina and Udinese don’t let up Milan will find it very difficult achieving 4th place, not to mention if Palermo finally start to pick up under Guidolin. We all know they have World Class players and can easily achieve it, but the squad just looks so bad in Serie A play. And maybe not qualifying for the Champions League next season is the only way to get the message across to Galliani and Berlusconi that something is not right.

I think Milan would benefit from missing Champions League next year- they play way too many games as it is, sometimes travelling around the world to do so. I’d like to think they would benefit from signing big names to rebuild- a la Bayern Munchen- but Bayern’s season isn’t over yet, and their success isn’t looking like it’s guaranteed…

Dave, I agree, it’s really hard to keep defending the team. We are sucking majorly, pure and simple. not so much that I think there’s a good chance of us being relegated, but it’s certainly going to be hard to qualify for ANY European competition next year unless we win this year.
Milan do play a ridiculous number of matches but that wouldn’t be such a problem if our team wasn’t so old. Other teams work it out just fine. If we don’t do something drastic (ie. for the love of all that is good, stop DENYING that we have issues and sign new players) we’re going to continue on this downward slide for a long while. sadly, i don’t see anything happening until the summer when all our veterans are let go, and then we don’t really have excuses for not buying new players. we’ll see.
PS. Cafu, I like you, I really do…but Dida is horrific and lying about it isn’t going to help anyone.

Ro, I admire your optimism, and I’ll still Milan no matter what. I haven’t given up on them. But surely you can’t deny that some serious change is needed to better our team?

Berlu has lost interest in milan since he quit politics (obvious since he doesn’t need votes anymore). He even stopped attending to matches except for the champions league final. There aren’t going to be any investments, and Carlo or whoever comes next has to live up with current members + Pato.

Yer, a change of keeper could be neccesary because a apparently a fly has just landed on him and now the friendly brazillian giant is in intensive care, suffering head trauma! (jokes)
Well weather it be signings or antthing they still have the worlds best player and are current european champions so they must be doing somethind right hay!Posted from

Is Kaka gone if you guys miss Europe this year?

If only it were true that Berlusconi had left politics . . .
What is true, however, is that there has been a definite drop off in the funds made available to Galliani since Silvio lost the election. Whether that is because the monies in question are being devoted to buying members of the Senate in the hope of bringing Prodi down or for other purposes is a question I leave to you.

Look you guys, Milan will bounce back this season. Don’t worry. Pato will do amazing, Gilardino will find his form, and I still have a little faith in Ronaldo.
The problem is in the long-run. I really think Uncle Fester and crew will feel the need to spend the big this summer. Milan will barely make it to the CL (4th place in Serie A) and they’ll get knocked out of the semi’s in the CL. :D
Cheer up.

you know its never a good sign when optimism is us reaching fourth place…
still, i do believe it is possible… if we win the three games we will be right back in the fray, only 2 points behind udinese and 1 behind fiorentina… we just need some spring 07 form…
forza milan.. but dida still sucks and ronaldo can take his fat ass anywhere he wants to as long as it is out of the good side in milan

I’ve been reading in various French mags that Milan is pushing to sign Hugo Lloris, Nice’s very young goalkeeper, probably future France NT #1, and one of France’s most promising young players. That would be a VERY good move for any club IMO.

Speaking of French players, GOURCUFF! He is what you call a WASTE of POTENTIAL. I wonder when they’re gonna realize that loaning him out is the best option!

I’ve seen that, too, Inara, but he’s only one of three or four they’re supposedly pursuing — god only knows which one is serious/will happen.
