Mmm … Cavani

By: Martha | April 25th, 2007

Eddie CavaniAs soon as he scored with that spectacular volley on his Palermo debut, you knew teams would come running after Edison Cavani, and it looks like the chase has officially begun: Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting Real Madrid have the Uruguayan in their sights and are preparing to make an offer. Jeez, so soon? While the striker has featured fairly often for the Rosoneri Rosaneri since joining them over the winter break, Palermo are one of those clubs always looking to sell high so, as we’ve discussed ad nauseum with regard to Toni and Fiorentina, no matter how good Cavani can be for the team, Crazy Zamparini can’t help but listen to offers.

Real’s is the only name currently being banded about, but if everyone else who was chasing the youngster in January is still interested, Zampa will have quite a flight of teams knocking on his door: Juve were after him then, as were Barcelona and Man U. (You know, just the usual list of tiny clubs.) I can’t find and information about Cavani’s current contract or about how much he cost in January, but given the amount of cash those three teams have available to them, no matter how much it might hurt to see him go after just a few months, one could forgive Zampa for considering a sale, if only for financial reasons.

DAMMIT I meant to check that, too, because I always get it wrong. Thanks, mele, going to fix it.

Anytime = ] All Italian words are masculine or feminine, and you can tell 90% of the time by the last letter
Rosso is red, the ending letter “o” is considered masculine, and rossa is pink, the ending letter “a” is considered feminine. (the plural endings would be “i” for masculine and “e” for feminine, but there are of course plenty of exceptions to this, so it’s hardly a rule) So the easy way to remember which is which is that red would be a more masculine color and pink if the feminine one. I don’t know how much Italian grammar you know, (I’m assuming not very much, no offense =P)so I’m just trying to give you some basic tips.

Cavani’s in a 5 year contract with Palermo and was taken on for 4.8M euro (as per dear ol’ StadioNews).

Ugh. So do not want this to happen. Ever. I mean, could you imagine a next year with both Amauri and Cavani up front for Palermo? Nggh Cavani’s more-than-promising precision growing with Amauri? Oh gosh, I’m sorry my brain just broke. YES. And with Amauri recovered, Caracciolo will probably be looking to take up his January stomp to Torino, so why dump strikers? WHY?

Think of the celebration dances, Zampa! Think of the dances!!

The long-suffering Philly fan in me would like to point out to the Palermo management that they will make more money with a winning team, thus selling off all their best strikers (or letting their world-class defenders go) is not a good idea.
    *sighs*
Like Stef, I’d love to see a Cavani-Amauri partnership in the starting lineup, but I’m not holding my breath.

I wish he stayed with the Pinkies. I’m a sucker for Uruguayans in general, but this kid is really really good. He could develop a serious career in Italy. I’d hate to see him go. He and Amauri combined = pure awesomeness. They’d make Palermo my second-favorite Serie A team.

I know what you’re talking about. It’s a huge issue here in Serbia too. :/
