Mmm … Coach News, Or: Why the Hell is Nothing Going on Today?
By: Martha | March 16th, 2007
Well, my usual news sources have run entirely dry this morning. Somehow Serie A seems to have made it through an entirely day without a new blackmail case, “argument gay,” or bizarre racist statements which, frankly, is deeply disappointing for many reasons, primary among them that it limits my ability to come up with good posts. Oh, and pure entertainment value, too — it’s not amusing at all to read a bunch of completely vitriol and scandal-free headlines. Sigh.
So, in an effort to raise the level of excitement on a slow-ass day, I offer you the following bits of news about managerial contracts, complete with periodic bits of semi-artificial emotion:
•Carlo Ancelotti is allegedly leaving Milan no matter what happens in Champions League. The highly dubious word on the street is that Marcello Lippi will put down his cigar and fishing pole and take his place.
•In better news, Cesare Prandelli still wants to stay at Fiorentina, and the club are finally publicly sharing his feelings, pledging to extend his contract before the season ends. Woo hoo! HOORAY FOR PRANDELLI! (Actually, that emotion is sort of sincere — he was manager of the year last year and has arguably done an even better job this year, getting his team near the top despite the 15-point penalty. If they can sign him now before all the big clubs come calling, the Viola would be insane to let him go.)
•And, finally, the story that will never end: After replacing speculation about his departure with reports that Robert Mancini had secretly re-signed with Inter, the rumor mill is now telling us that final discussions between coach and club are being postponed. Again. Only for a while this time, though — supposedly things will be sorted after the totally arbitrary deadline of the upcoming brutal dismantling of bottom club Ascoli. For God’s sake, people! Can we just either get this thing signed or bring Mourinho in and be done with it already?!

Martha, since it is a slow day in calcio and you clearly are a full sports fan (Cardinal Nation membership aside)…how about a little NCAA Tourney banter? I had the best first day of my life. 14/16 on one, 13/16 on the other. Already threatened with a lifetime suspension from my pool (I have won a few times). How are other peoples brackets shaping up?

If only we could get some info on how Totti’s bracket looks — that I would totally post about!
I am a huge sports fan, Muddia, but when Mizzou isn’t in the tournament (I know, I know), my main energy goes not into predicting who will win, but rather hoping Duke will lose. And woo hoo! It worked!
You’re clearly the kind of these things, if you’ve won that pool a bunch (might be time to throw a year, so they don’t get kick of losing!) — who do you have winning? I hope it’s not Florida. And I sorta like Texas — do they have a chance?

Kevin Durant might be the best college player ever. Seriously, ever. But Rick Barnes can’t coach. I have them upsetting UNC on one sheet though. As much as I hate to say it, I have KU on one and UNC on the other. I dislike each equally, especially KU after that rat Bill Self left the Illini for them.
I heard Totti had Oral Roberts going all the way in his brackets. Unfortunately for him, they’re out. But if you do want to post something Totti, this is hilarious.

You’ve probably seen it and it is a little long, but can you imagine a show like punk’d ever doing this to like A-Rod or LeBron?

I love that video! Scherzi Aparti is awesome! Gattuso and Francesco Coco’s are great also!

I saw Gattusso’s the other day, it’s FANTASTIC! Just what you’d expect: Lots of aggro yelling and swearing.
I’ve only ever watched the start of the Totti one, Muddia, I’ll check it out now.

Seriously Martha, you could never even imagine a show in the States doing this to any celebrity. Not ever.

Duke hate represent!
Martha, I would also suggest “a href=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3faU2emEyw”>the Oddo episode–he’s chased by a dog and forced to strip down to his underwear. He looks good but comes off as something of a wimp.

Ok, the Totti thing is SO dirty. I’m with you, Muddia — no US show would EVER be so dumb to do that to a celeb, even if it was before he was married. He is adorable though, dammit.
Going to check out Oddo next, Louise — I’m already cringing a little.

Ok, if the Oddo one is real, it’s really, really sad. I hope his wife kicked his ass afterwards for letting her get dragged off to get raped while he frolicked, naked, with dogs!
Also, I never noticed how freakishly large his traps were. Clearly I need to pay more attention.
