Mmm … Frank Lampard
By: Martha | October 23rd, 2007
Oh look, it’s the Frank Lampard story again! According to an article in this morning’s La Gazzetta, Juve are still (or again) interested in Frank Lampard, a man who has gone from being King of the World to the target of England boo-boys in the space of just a few months.
Despite swearing his allegiance to Chelsea at the end of last season, Lampard spent all summer being described as “unsettled,” and the departure of his BFF Jose Mourinho has only made things worse. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll soon have somewhere to go: Though denials will surely be coming out of Turin before this post even goes up, it’s being reported that Juve sporting director Alessio Secco is in London as we speak. He’s got a lot to do there (very, very busy, these Juve suits), but one of them is supposedly making Chelsea an offer for Lampard. That alleged offer will be be valued at about €10 million, with the 29-year-old Lampard accepting a pay cut down to €5 million, a salary that would leave him one of the best-payed players in Serie A but is a long way from the raise he’s been demanding from Chelsea.
Depending on who you believe, Lampard has either recently rejected an extension offer or not yet started negotiations to stay with the London club beyond 2009, when his current contract ends; either way, the prospect of spending his future playing under Avram Grant (AKA the guy who runs out the team Roman Abramovic picks) must be just a wee bit chilling. Plus, given how much England fans hate him right now, leaving the country and reuniting with Claudio Ranieri could have a certain appeal.
