More Big-Name Shopping for Inter
By: Martha | December 8th, 2006
Apparently the current line of thinking in the Inter half of the San Siro is “Today, Italy. Tomorrow? The world!”, because hot on the heels of yesterday’s Beckham and Messi stories, the Italian press is reporting that the nerazzurri are also planning to snap up Arsenal’s pig-charactered legend, Thierry Henry. Though it was thought the Henry-to-Inter rumors were at an end after he re-signed with Arsenal last summer, Arsenal’s poor start and the fact that Henry has recently been left out of the side has led to their sudden reawakening. And (apart from that whole arrogance thing, and the fact that he periodically disappears during big games), who wouldn’t want the guy? He scores buckets of goals and his previous experience with Juventus would probably make the adjustment to life in Serie A a fairly easy one. Plus, it’s being suggested that Arsenal would let him go in a straight swap (!!!!) for Adriano, which would pretty much be a win-win for Inter. Adriano, obviously, is a lot younger than Henry, and could find his form again at any moment but still — I can’t imagine Mancini fighting against that deal if it came across his proverbial desk.
The offer will supposedly be made sooner than later, if it’s going to come at all — Barca are also reportedly interested in stealing them some Henry, and the folks at Inter want to make sure they’re first in line. It sounds, then, like they’re talking about doing the deal during the winter transfer period — the thought of the currently undefeated Inter adding Henry has got to have the rest of the league just about ready to throw in the towel.
