More Brazilian Targets for the Big Clubs?
By: Martha | March 15th, 2007
If you believe the latest rumors, in addition to ever-present Milan target Ronaldinho, there are apparently a few other Brazilian in Spain who might or might not find themselves in Italy next season.
According to the Italian press, Real’s Cicinho — who just returned from an ACL injury — isn’t particularly happy in Madrid and is interested in a transfer to Roma, a club that very nearly landed him last summer. Though that deal fell apart when Real insisted on a straight sale rather than a loan, Cicinho remains an appealing target because of his proven ability, relative youth (he’s 26) and very handy Italian passport. In addition, he recently signed with new agents, who just happen to also represent one Alexander Doni, and the Roma keeper is supposedly one of Cicinho’s homies. Reports suggest the player could be had for about £4 million, an amount that would bring Real a cool million in profit over the price they paid for him two years ago.
Meanwhile, up north, an always-eager Milan are supposedly being courted a bit by former winter transfer target Robinho, who is currently out of favor at Real (how that happened I cannot imagine — every time I see him play it’s fairly breath-taking) and is wistfully eying greener pastures. In an interview with Brazilian website Globoesporte, the winger revealed that, shock of shocks, the rumors of a Milan approach for him during the winter break were accurate, and that Real’s refusal to deal him is part of what lead the Italian club to turn to Ronaldo. Milan were, however, linked with Robinho way back in the day when he first came to Europe, and Fabio Capello’s lack of faith in the player (his words, not mine) has him dreaming of life in Serie A. Milan, surely, would be interested but, as with the Ronaldinho rumors, if Real don’t want to sell all the sweet talk in the world ain’t going to make a bit of difference.
