Mother Knows Best: My Adriano Is Staying Put

By: Martha | March 28th, 2007

Adriano, caught in a net. While yesterday’s statements by Adriano’s agent that his client is an Inter player “100 percent” and that “The future of a champion as Adriano cannot depend on one evening in discotheque” were mostly ignored by everyone who has ever seen spin before, today’s statements by his mother, Rosilda, are something else entirely. I mean, it’s his mom! Even if he hadn’t talked to her in months, surely he’s compelled to do whatever she says, if only not to make her look like a liar. Right? And, according to Adriano’s mom — who apparently made the mistake of answering the phone, even thought the caller ID said “Italy: Evil, Prying Journalist” — Adriano Galliani Massimo Moratti is “like a father” to her son (oh dear), and the boy will never leave Inter. So there you have it — no need to ask any more questions, thanks for playing.

Ahem. The article in La Gazzetta dello Sport is actually pretty great, particularly in the lyrical way it describes Adriano’s phone calls home, when he tried to pretend everything was fine and yet his dear mother could still detect the pain in his voice: “The tone transformed the voice in urlo of pain, in one demanded of aid, because Adrian has need to find again the smile in order to exit from the tunnel in which it has entered from some month.” I mean, that’s touching even when mangled by a translation engine — imagine how great it sounded in the original Italian!

Like any mother, Rosilda is quite sure it’s evil associates who are dragging her son down the wrong (Read: Booze-heavy) path — he’s simply an innocent lad who is flawed in that he trusts everyone equally. Every time he’s out on the town til the wee hours? Someone else’s fault. Clearly. Really, he’s just a poor, sensitive lad. Hell, when he was 10, and his dad received some sort of horrible head injury that eventually killed him and left his mom terrible depressed, the young Adriano said to her “Mother, if you do not eat I you do not eat, if you do not laugh I you do not laugh.” (Whew, sorry. Got a little choked up there for a second.)

Anyway, her point is that he’s not going anywhere. He loves the big boss, his teammates adore and respect him (she recently spent four months in Milan — damn, must have been hard for him to get out and party with his mom in the house — and personally witnessed him having dinner with Ibra, Figo, Maicon, Dacourt and Vieira), and her boy will respect his committment to the Nerazzurri, thanks very much. Any problems, she says, will be addressed by God. So please address any further questions to Him. Thanks.

I just saw that and I had to wonder if you were on to it yet. I’m very glad you have been. Adriano Galliani like a father! Really, with a father like that who needs Lord Voldemort.

Um… I think she meant that Moratti, the owner of INTER MILAN, and not Adriano Galliani (AC MILAN) was like a father to Adri

LOL Adriano is always good for a story. I hope he never leaves, I can’t even imagine him on a team other than Inter.
