Mourinho doesn’t accept “Golden Anteater Award”
By: Francesco | January 27th, 2009
One of the most popular shows in Italy is “Striscia la Notizia” a parody news show (kind’ve like a Daily Show with Jon Stewart or a Colbert Report but more variety show styled) that is broadcast on Canale 5 in Italy. It is a very funny show and the news covers all aspects of daily life. Probably one of the shows most famous segments is the “Tapiro D’Oro” (pictured) [Golden Anteater Award] which is given to celebrities and famous people who are embarrassed in the media. The award is presented by Vincenzo Stafelli and since 1996 he has chased down celebrities and awarded them with this funny prize. Most of the time the celebrities play along and amusingly accept the award with honor, but other times there are those who simply don’t want to be bothered or embarrassed and get mad when they see Stafelli in the vicinity. Many stars of the calcio award have received this award at least once, from Del Piero to Vieri to Borriello to Cassano, the list goes on and on. After hearing about Jose Mourinho’s locker room rant after Inter’s 3-1 loss to Atalanta, Striscia thought it would be a good idea to give Mourinho this prestigious award. Unfortunately, Mourinho decided this was one award he didn’t want on his mantle. Video after the jump.
Well, at least you can say Roberto Mancini was a good sport. Last season he took the award (as well as most of the Inter squad) after crashing out of the Champions League:

It isn’t an anteater, it is a tapir.
Two different animals!

Maybe José is hatching a plot to steal all of them tapirs at the same time, and thus eliminating the need for Figo to shamefully steal them one by one.

I laughed as Figo went to take other trophies. He just casually goes and takes them and goes “I have other my kids to give them too.”

You know, I bet Mourinho would have taken the trophy had not Striscia tried to ambush him at his home. His family is notoriously media-shy. If they had come to his office, things may have been different. But then, maybe not.

He may know how to say “pirla”, but I guess the Tapiro is a part of Italian culture which José hasn’t quite absorbed yet… :P

I’m with Johonna.
Laughing at himself may not be one of Mourinho’s strong points, but he can do it, and if they had come to the Meazza or Appiano Gentile, there’s quite a good chance that he would have played along.

What was that show with Capello and the strippers? Is it normal for Italian coaches to be regaled in this way on TV?

One word to describe mourinho: ASSHOLE!
Kappa: I believe that the best jerseys in the world are made by Kappa. and the best looking ones are (1) Sampdoria (2) Roma (3) Valencia (Nike: new ones are SICK) (4) Inter (Nike: home kit)
