Mourinho To a Milan Club? Either One Would be Fine, Thanks.
By: Martha | January 12th, 2007
Though his unhappiness has been rumored for weeks, reports are flying out of England today that Jose Mourinho has had enough of (losing) the power struggles at Chelsea, and is telling friends he’s leaving the club this summer. While this is a bummer for Chelsea (I’m sorry, the man is good. Though so is Guus Hiddink, his rumored replacement, so they’d certainly land on their feet with him.), it’s tantalizing news for pretty much every big club in Spain and Italy, his likely destinations, as well as sportswriters in both of those countries — with Mourinho come good quotes, baby.
The English press seem to think that Real Madrid and Inter are the front runners for Mourinho’s signature, with the Independent (yes, that’s right, an actual reliable source) reporting that Massimo Moratti has already pledged to offer more than the £5.2 million the Portuguese gaffer currently earns. Italian papers, meanwhile, have dug up some links with Milan, though those seem to stem primarily from a)The club’s bad first half, and b)the entirely unconvincing votes of confidence Silvio Berlusconi keeps bestowing upon poor Carlo Ancelotti.
Oh, and also? Cesar Peixoto, one of Mourinho’s players at Porto and still a good friend, accidentally told a journalist that his former boss is house-hunting in Milan. Eeeeeexcellent. Fingers and toes fully crossed in the hope that this actually happens.

Martha, you seem to have a thing for Portuguese guys. Can you confirm?

Well, I definitely have a thing for at least two of them, though I’m not sure if their common nationality is the reason or just a coincidence. I will, however, ponder it further. And I do like Rui Costa …

You know, Luis from Portugal World Cup Blog says that ALL Portuguese guys look like this. I told him I would have to visit. Purely for research purposes, of course.

I spent a month in Portugal at Euro 2004 and, while the trip and the country were amazing, either I was looking in the wrong place or Luis is lying to us. I’m sure I would have remember had the whole country been full of Mourinho clones!
