Muntari, Cruz on the Move?
By: Martha | May 14th, 2007
Udine firebrand Sulley Ali Muntari, who seems to be present in transfer rumors pretty much all the time for some reason, is allegedly on his way to Portsmouth (and not Liverpool) in England. Practically every big club in Italy has wanted Muntari, at least in passing, and he very nearly went to Pompey last summer; this time, though, his agent insists it’s the real thing: “Udinese have already wrapped up the deal with the English side and my client will go there … There are only a few details to tie up between the player and Portsmouth.” If he does go to England, it’s a big loss for both Udine and for Italy — Muntari is only 22, and is the kind of balls-out player Serie A needs and everyone secretly loves (except when their team is playing him).
On the non-balls-out side, nice, calm (except when Valencia are involved) Julio Cruz is also the subject of transfer chatter today, also not for the first time. According to our friends at Tribal Football, his agent has been talking to people in Florence. Not, you understand, because he’s trying to sell them on Cruz, but mostly because he’s BFF with Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino. They have, however, discussed the Argentine a few times, and the Viola are one of two Italian clubs allegedly interested in the player, along with two each in Spain and England. (Not names mentioned for those other clubs but, given that Cruz generally keeps his mouth shut and is a good teammate, I think we can rule out Real Madrid.)

Hey! Real Madrid is now the big Spanish club where everyone is getting along famously (obviously Canna’s influence). It’s Barca that’s got the personality problems, and after Valdez’s performance this weekend, I can believe they might be looking at Cruz.
