Napoli Get Some Love

[FYI: I'm traveling Monday and Wednesday and will update if I can. Normal service will resume Thursday. And Tuesday. Yes, I'm making this unnecessarily complicated.]
Though given his manager’s most recent statements it’s a significant stretch to believe he’ll be going anywhere, Guiseppe Rossi is suddenly interested in joining Napoli. Or at least that’s what his agent is telling the English press. Oddly, Channel 4 are reporting that Rossi is again available for sale, despite the fact that the press hasn’t reported any change of heart on the part of the suddenly very possessive Alex Ferguson.
If it is in fact true (again) that Rossi will be allowed to leave, the most interested Italian buyers at the moment, in addition to Napoli, are the ever-present Parma and the shrewd Fiorentina, who are always in the process of trying to strength their strike force. It will be interesting to see which of these clubs can catch Rossi’s eye by promising him regular appearances, and which will be willing to meet Man U’s likely price demands, which will probably be just over €10 million.
On the other side of the age range from the youthful Rossi, meanwhile, is Inter’s Alvaro Recoba; the Urugyuan has developed such a passion for Napoli that he’s recently told La Gazzetta that if they don’t want him, he’ll just stay at Inter. This despite recent rumors of destinations as wildly diverse as Atletico Madrid, Quatar and Uruguay. According to the article, Napoli is known and respect in Uruguay — and probably all over South America, thanks to Maradona’s reign there — which is a possible explanation for Recoaba’s fervor for the club. And, Maradona aside, one couldn’t blame El Chino for having visions of a triumphant, final season as the hero of a small club.

I refuse to think about the possibilities of a certain Jersey-born player lighting it up at the San Paolo. A budding superstar who is only 20 and has proved himself by playing a major role in Parma’s salvation last season. I refuse to imagine a scenario where the Azzurrini star scores the game winner by making a run from the midfield stripe and slaloming around five defenders to chip the keeper and bring home 3 points against Juventus at the San Paolo. In the name of all that is holy I refuse to imagine this happening.
Unlike some others, I’d welcome El Chino to Napoli. I understand he hasn’t been healthy but when he is on…man, he can absolutely dominate. He’d automatically become our best player so unless he’s a locker room cancer (I haven’t heard he is, but maybe someone can correct me) I think we’d be all the better for him even if he only plays half the games. Mariano Bogliacino and new signee Walter Gargano are also from Uruguay and have both talked about how much they look up to Recoba. A three pronged attack with Calaio-Jersey boy-Recoba? Holy crap that is some kind of attack.
