News Roundup of Randomness and Azzurrini Sadness
By: Martha | June 11th, 2007
•First and foremost on the random train in the rumor that Roma are interested in cast-off Palermo deity Eugenio Corini. According to reports in Italy, he’s being seen as a possible alternative to David Pizarro, which I guess means the Chilean is on his way out. Hmm. While I adore Corini and quite like the thought of him featuring regularly for a top club, this seems unlikely to me — why would Roma bring in a 36-year-old to play in the center of their team? And, if he’s not going to play regularly, why would Corini go there when he’s reportedly already in talks with Siena for a possible two-year deal worth just short of a million pounds? If he’s not going to be up north near his kids, the man has made it clear he wants to be more than a substitute. (Also: If anyone can explain the fact that every article about Corini links him to Napoli, please share. Every assumes there’s a connection, but no one ever tells us WHY either party would be interested.)
•Though it’s gotta be pretty embarrassing to be fined €150,000, have your chairman called “a danger to the sport” and be banned for five years, I’m quite sure Genoa will take those punishments over points-docking any day of the week.
•So, it’s official: Vincenzo Iaquinta is leaving Udine. (Shocking, I know.) His destination has not yet been formally revealed, but the assumption is that he’s on his way to Juventus — the Udine chairman says the two clubs have already agreed terms, and that the striker may actually already have signed a contract. That’s what he’s hearing through the Presidential grapevine, anyway. All will be revealed to us peons shortly.
•The Azzurrini were upset 1-0 by Serbia tonight in their opening U21 Championship match. Sigh. Reports suggest Italy sat back a bit a looking to counter, an approach which won them a slew of chances — the only problem was that they missed them. If the media reaction here to Portugal’s goalless draw is any indication of how this is going to go in the Italian press, things could get a bit nasty tomorrow.
•Oh, now this is rich: Mauro Camoranesi (AKA The King of Complainers Not Named David Trezeguet) has announced he’ll only leave Juve if his destination is Milan, Roma or Inter. Gee, that’s great Mauro — what unexpected, tiny targets you have! What makes you think any of those clubs want you, or would be willing to pay whatever astronomical salary you’re going to demand?
•Galatasaray’s only summer transfer target is Luis Figo. Doh!
•Having signed Atalanta midfielder Giulio Migliaccio and teenage Anderlecht keeper Samir Ujkani last week, Palermo are now reportedly closing in on widely desired Livorno keeper Marco Amelia. Reports from Italy suggest the Rosanero will send €5 million and backup keeper Federico Agliardi the other way, as well as handing Livorno the half of striker Davide Matteini they own (he spent last season on loan with Empoli, who share his ownership).
•And, finally, given the excitement with which Germany women are anticipating the arrival of Luca Toni, they’re apparently really, really short on men over there. Anyone readers who want to score a wife right quick, I recommend learning a touch of German and getting your ass to Berlin.

Guh, I hate Camorenesi. I mean I’ll say the whole not singing the national anthem thing bothered me but I figured what the hell…not a big deal. I underestimated what an absolute tool this guy is. I think he’ll be completely useless in 3 years and will just have to be content working wherever he can…while he still has some skill left though, I think the big clubs will come a knocking. Which is why I want him to remain at Juve. The longer they have to deal with his crap, the better of my team will be.

Gazzetta seem to have borrowed the Luca Toni article from Bild, where there’s a few more tidbits-like that Reporter number 1 usually prefers Swedish types. (Whereby she does not mean Ibrahimovic.)
And I will be pleased if Palermo actually pull off the Amelia transfer. It would show reassuring signs of sanity…

I too have been similarly described as having an “extraordinary combination of high, athletic and ardent Italian.” …The ‘high-ness’ was totally not my fault though, as I was given a laced cig unbeknownst to me ;)

@Mike
How was your taste buds after the smoke?
I’ve read somewhere that Catania was interested in Corini, which for me, made a bad thing worse.

Great, we’ll let Corini go, and we’ll spend a lot of money on a good goalkeeper. Well i’m excited for some more TIES this season then….thanks for the heads up Martha

Cameronesi to MILAN?!??!??! I would take Del Piero before him and I can’t even stand him.

So let me get this straight, Lisa: Are you telling me the German press are slashing Toni and Ibra?

Mike, the punishments around here for involuntary cocaine use are slightly different than those in Serie A.
Instead of suspending you, we simply require at least three comments/day, as well as the sharing of Adrian Mutu’s phone number — you’ve get it when he calls you to give advice on how to handle the situation with dignity and class. (And, trust me, he WILL call.)

Martha, wait, WHAT?
Anthony, I think we can rule out Corini going to Catania. His reason for delaying on contract negotiations with Palermo was because he was considering the possibility of playing somewhere closer to where his children live (Verona.) Catania, aside from being Palermo’s rivals, don’t really help with the distance issue. Various reports say he’s talking to Siena, Gazzetta say they’re discussing a two year contract.

Steep punishments for an innocent little comment! I protest these allegations and accuse Ginto of match-fixing, Anthony of doping, and Martha of stalking Mutu without any regards for his privacy… ps: Adrian was really helpful, and would love to have to dinner with you! He said he’d like to bring a friend, some Portuguese guy… Luis, I think he said his name is? Some dude that plays for Inter.

Yea, I’m not doping, barely supplying it even. Honest. My primary occupations are stolen art dealer, and international jewel thief.

I read a two sentence article at tribal football. Just doing my part to spread rumors.Posted from

Don’t even joke about such things, Mike. I could suffer some sort of massive aneurysm just at the thought, and then where would we be?
(And I’ll have you know I’m one degree from Mutu — I know a guy who’s a buddy of his, which I believe gives me a 54% chance of meeting him if he ever comes to New York. Though I also am getting the sense that all Romanians have his phone number, so my contact might not be the intimate associate he makes himself out to be.)

I think I know who you speak of Martha. He’s legit, and could totally set something up. He’s Mutu’s pimp. So I’ve heard.

Wow, Mutu’s pimp? That’s way better than my connection to Del Piero. I slept with his brother’s ex-girlfriend’s cousin’s best-friend’s former-room-mate (and I never called her back; maybe that lessens my chances).
I DO wear Alex jerseys under my work clothes every day, but I guess that won’t really help the next time he’s shopping in midtown unless I’m running around like Superman… Which I suppose I occasionally do.

So this is where I’m supposed to pretend to be all disproving at the thought of Mutu having a pimp, right? Yeah, I’ll work on that.
And, Mike, so YOU’RE that weird, Del Piero Superman guy I keep seeing! At least you’re cooler than that asshat naked cowboy guy. And your hair is much better than Alex’s, though I suppose that’s not very hard.
