News Roundup As the Legend of Bobo Marches On
By: Martha | August 8th, 2007
•Less than ten minutes into his first match with Fiorentina, Christian Vieri scored. As if he’d do anything else.
•Despite coach Walter Mazzari’s denials yesterday, the Sampdoria brass are still talking about the possible arrival of Antonio Cassano, praising the striker and trying to use public pressure to convince Real Madrid to assume an even greater percentage of his burdensome salary in order to make the move possible.
•Today’s Italian Manchester City target is Manuel Blasi. Just so you know.
•Alvaro Recoba, who is now officially the only Inter player who hasn’t turned up for training, has been spotted in Turin. Before your little minds get a-churning, though, forget it: He’s there on vacation, certainly not to talk to Torino about a move. Nothing like that.
•According to the odds-makers in Italy, Francesco Totti and the no-longer-fat Ronaldo are joint favorites to lead Serie A in scoring this season, follow by Giampaolo Pazzini, Hernan Crespo (!), Tommaso Rocchi, Alberto Gilardino and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in that order. (Yes, that’s right: Pazzini and Gila are both ahead of Ibra. Ouch.) It’s interesting how sure everyone in Italy is that Ronaldo will have a spectacular season — if he does, Milan might just be as good as he seems to think they are.*
•Speaking of, I’m trying to pretend it’s not happening, but the Ronaldinho-to-Milan stories are back. Not only that, but someone at Big Soccer with an “inside” source says the deal will be closed by tomorrow morning. Sigh.

yes its about that time of the year when all the fans are cocky about their teams chances in the new season only to fall flat on their faces two weeks in…

On a PK, though. We don’t get many of those in the regular season. I hope he enjoyed it.

Nicky, SSSSHHHH, you’re stealing his thunder! (: Ok, so I left that part out, but still — the point is that it’s a goal. And that the team told him to take the PK, which is just awesome. I love how quickly everyone’s fallen in love with him there, hopefully that’s a sign he working hard and will help the team.
