News Roundup for April 5th
By: Julian | April 5th, 2011Today’s news focuses on a striker’s return to help his side in the Champions’ League, a coach’s return to the league to help his side with salvation, and a goalie who might just need a home in the near future.
Inter are the final Italian side remaining in the Champions’ League, and must overcome FC Schalke today in order to progress into the semi-finals. Th predicted starting elevens for each side are:
Giampaolo Pazzini is ineligible to play in Europe but Diego Milito looks to make his return from injury. Raul will certainly be one to watch for Andrea Ranocchia and Christain Chivu, as he’s stated that he is anxious to score and pass Pippo Inzaghi’s record for most goals scored in Europe.
Elsewhere on the peninsula, relegation-threatened Parma have taken action in an attempt to secure their Serie A future. Coach Pasquale Marino was fired after his side lost to Bari over the weekend, and today Franco Colomba has been brought in as his replacement. Colomba’s last job was with Bologna last season, where he kept the club in Serie A before being dismissed the day before his current season began due to disagreements with new owners. Parma will certainly be looking for Colomba to repeat his Rossoblu heroics.
Finally this morning, Tuttomercato web notes that Fernando Muslera is close to his Lazio teammates despite mistakes in recent matches, such as in the derby and against Napoli. Most interestingly, they seem to think that his contract renewal won’t occur, although some sources state that his current one won’t expire for another four years. At any rate, should Uruguay’s number one enter the mercato, he won’t have a shortage of suitors.
