Newsie Bits as We Wait for the Chivu Saga to Just END ALREADY
By: Martha | July 24th, 2007
•Giampaolo Pazzini has extended his contract with Fiorentina for another two years, which means he’s now tied to the club through 2011. Eeeeeexcellent.
•Catania have let a little radiation leak scare them off their pre-season tour of Japan. Bunch of freaking babies.
•In their first big signing of the summer, Napoli look to have beaten both Lazio and Atalanta to the signature of Uruguyan midfielder Walter Gargano; the 23-year-old has reportedly agreed to a five-year deal. Napoli have been chasing Gargano for over a month, and just days ago talks were thought to have collapsed, leaving Lazio as the only club that could “satisfy his requirements.” Or not, as it turns out.
•Marcello Lippi and Fabio Capello are in negotiations with rival TV networks to talk about football for them. I tell you this only because I want you to look at picture of Lippi (who is on vacation, as usual) that’s included with the La Gazetta article. Pimp pimp pimp.
•Juve look set to do a bit of wheeling and dealing: The English press are reporting they’re preparing a £3 million bid for Arsenal’s out of favor Philippe Senderos, while the Italians papers say they’re considering selling foot-in-mouth boy Georgio Chiellini to the suddenly rich Manchester City, who are reportedly offering €10 million for the former Azzurrini captain. So, for those of you keeping score, that’s two 22-year-old defenders swapped for one another, with a profit of over €5 million in the deal. Good stuff, Juve.
•Simone Inzaghi is expected to join Parma from Lazio any minute now. I don’t want to get anyone too excited or anything, but this could mean Pippo’s kid brother — he’s but a child of 31 — will actually get to play this year. Like, in Serie A games and everything!
•Daniele Di Rossi has taken the occasion of his 24th birthday to declare his undying love for Roma. Isn’t that romantic? (He also talked about Chivu in the past tense. Oops.)
•Though the player has never had any contact with the club, La Gazzetta dello Sport is convinced that Fiorentina is the perfect place for Antonio Cassano to resurrect his career. Given Viola coach Cesare Prandelli’s successful history with Cassano, I have to say I’m inclined to agree — I’m not saying I want him there, but if Prandelli can’t sort him out (and since Carlo Ancelotti won’t get a chance), I don’t know who can.
•I’m going to London this weekend to see Inter play in the Emirates Cup. Woo hoo!

If Cassano winds up in Firenze with Bobo I’m demanding that you relieve yourself of your Serie A duties, move to Florence and cover the Viola full time.
Non-negotiable.

I expect pictures and full coverage of the Inter match so the rest of us can pretend we were there too. Maybe you could even go undercover as some sort of groupie…

I thought the Chivu saga was dead. Good grief, I’m beginning to see why they call it the ’silly season!’ *looks nauseous*
Hey, is LJ dead?

HAH who knew?! i might get my wish of a head-case stand-off after all… a head-case that makes adriano look like an amateur…
ps. what is the deal with inter and attracting all the head-cases in the world?! adriano & ibra play there, vieri used to, cassano wanted to go there, matrix.. to name a few..

RT, thank you for your implication than any groupie work would be entirely in the interest of effective press coverage, as opposed to personal desires. I owe you a big one.

Ady, it looks like he’s coming to Inter — again. (And it was dead, but not anymore.)
K, I wonder if it’s not more that they don’t care about head-cases and will just pay for ability and hope they can fix it, whereas other clubs (apart from Milan) don’t have the money or the squad depth to take those chances? (And my GOD does Word Press hate your email address. Everything you write goes into the spam/moderation pile!)

That’s technology for you. This whole “comment publishing” thing is clearly VERY complicated. Mmmhmm.

Martha, i think you should take some sort of sign to that game. maybe one saying “theoffside” or “i am the almighty Voldemort/Martha”… i’ll be watching that game on tv so i hope to see some kind of comical sign in the stands! hahaha

Cassano back in Serie A? I’m telling you it’ll be cool if only for the drama. He’s a first rate asshole but what skill he has. If he pulls it together he can get recalled up by Donadoni and take Totti’s place. Wouldn’t that be ironic?
What a great picture of Lippi. I miss his style.

Kirby, I like how you think. If it’s not bucketing down (which it’s supposed to do ALL WEEKEND), I’ll see if I can track down some posterboard and sneak in an “I AM THE LIZARD KING” sign.

Lippi is the king. We need him back.
And, Joe, I’m thinking the same thing — just imagine if the real Cassano comes back. Almost gives you chills, doesn’t it? (And I’ve got a post about the latest on him coming in about an hour, but are Napoli out of the mix? Were they ever in it?)

i’ll probably die laughing if i see that. if its raining try to get some waterproof cardboard. after the games you could use the cardboard outside the stadium to make an extra buck or 2. am sure everyone in england loves some good break-dancing lol…
