Not So Fast, Amauri
By: Martha | November 11th, 2006
Just when it looked as if everything was finally in place for Palermo superstud Amauri to make his Azzurri debut, Donadoni goes and throws a monkey wrench into all our plans. What, he wants the man to have an Italian passport? Outrageous! The team will be named tomorrow, and if Donadoni takes Steve McClaren’s “Friendlies Means Everyone is Welcome!” approach, he could name a squad of about 40 men. Don’t be surprised if Alex del Piero and Cassano show up somewhere in there — a friendly is an easy way for Donandoni to prove he’s willing to name them in the side without having to waste actual, important squad space on them.
Incidentally, has an Italy side been picked since Cassano appeared on the scene without the manager being asked whether he’s willing to accept the boy (who, by the way, has had his latest training ban lifted) and his immaturity in the team? Do you think this is a sign of something?

Roberto Donadoni knows what he’s doing. If he seems anctious for Amauri, Brazil will snatch him up, put him in uniform, and bench him, just to take the option away from Italy. Donadoni knows this, so he plays as if he is only vaguely interested. Don’t believe the B.S. interviews. Donadoni is playing Chess.
Make no mistake - the only real rivalry left at the World Cup stage is Italy vs. Brazil. Five vs Four.Posted from
