Obligatory Coppa Update

For those of you who failed to pay attention, the second legs of the Coppa Italia quarterfinals were played this week and the final four is now set. (Yes, I know, I missed it too. Though the games ARE in the Tivo, thanks very much, and I pledge to at least watch the Inter one, if only because Figo played they play such attractive football.)
•Milan, despite losing to Serie B Arezzo yesterday, managed to sneak through with an aggregate 2-1 win and will face Roma next week in one semifinal. Unfortunately for miserable, ulcer-ridden Carlo Ancelotti, though, the team has returned rather abruptly to their suckified ways, and he’s once again furious with his hapless bunch. Poor, poor Ancelotti. He’s going to get fired, and it’s totally not his fault.
•For their part, Roma squeezed past Parma’s incredible, primary school-aged cup team, advancing with a one-goal aggregate victory after securing a late draw. The game was notable pretty much only because Totti didn’t score. He must not have been trying.
•As befits the holders and the best team in Italy, Inter strolled through to the next round, beating Empoli 2-0 for the second time in a week. As they have for the whole tournament, even though they were comfortably ahead and playing at home (in front of 8241 crazed fans), Inter still put a first team-ish squad on the field. Which is pretty awesome, considering even the most rabid supporters can hardly bring themselves to care about this tournament.
•And, finally, Sampdoria ended Chievo’s dream of silverware, securing the dubious privileged of facing Inter next week.
Whew. Well, that wasn’t TOO painful.
