Odds And Ends As Adriano Preens in the Stand
By: Martha | August 27th, 2007
•Despite a weekend full of loan rumors and the Inter brass practically begging the Brazilian to take his unflatteringly snug Armani tops elsewhere, Adriano’s agent today angrily insisted his client would either stay at Inter or be sold full stop. Apparently for some reason Adriano is opposed to the idea of getting out of the spotlight and going to rediscover his form with a team where he’s already loved. Yeah, sounds hellish to me, too.
•Also, in case you’ve been wondering what he’s been up to since his triumphant arrival, Emerson wants everyone to know he thinks only of Milan. Duly noted, sir.
•Silvio Baldini apologized to everyone this afternoon for that whole kicking incident. And when I say everyone, I really mean it: He specifically mentioned Catania supporters, Parma supporters, the city of Catania, the team president, and the Catania players, as well as “those who are daily involved in social activities, to prison educators, to the communities, to the professors.” Everyone, that is, but his victim. Regarding Domencio Di Carlo, he said: “I don’t apologize to him because he does not deserve it.” Too freaking brilliant. (For the sake of calcio, I just hope Baldini never hooks up with Maurizio Zamparini — the league would never recover.)
•Fabio Capello denies he’s going to Spurs, but he’s not said a anything about that meeting he had last week with US Soccer Federation President Sunil Gulati and current US national team coach Bob Bradley. Oh dear lord. He’s not bored enough to take a gig as US technical director, is he?
•There’s still no conclusion to the Riganò saga, but since Messina would get paid better if he ended up with Levante, they’re reportedly pushing him in the direction of Spain.
•Speaking of people who aren’t gone yet, Alvaro Recoba is still at Inter. (Though he’s suddenly training without team gear — sign of forgetfulness or the end of an era? You decided.) The latest is that he wants to join Torino because he’s worked successfully with Walter Novellino before; it’s unclear if the clubs have even spoken, but with Di Michele out it’s hard to imagine Toro turning away a striker.
•Aldo Spinelli: Really, really not a fan of Coppa Italia.

2 things:
1. Is that a boob or a third arm that Alvaro is rocking in that picture?
2. Apparently Serie A is also an annoyance for Livorno because they didn’t even show up on Saturday.

Coppa Italia has always been a waste, but it is what it is. I would make every round single-elimination, and include every club from Serie A to Serie C2. That way sometimes you could see those surprises we all love to see.

1)A boob.
2)Touché.And Francesco, can you maybe put that in writing and send it over to Italy? Because they clearly need some help in modernizing the thing.

I’m with Francesco for one reason: I’d love to see Spalletti put out the “A” squad and let loose a 1-2-6-1 attack against Cisco Roma just because Paolo Di Canio is on the squad. Prediction? 417-0.

I think Di Canio is the manager of Cisco Roma now. So Spalletti could give him one of his trademark stares:

and I had to post this picture of Spalletti with hair that I found on google:

He’s still on the squad under forwards on the official website, which has been recently updated to include Keivan Zarineh, who was only loaned 1-2 weeks ago. Which is more than mildly frightening for Roma fans.

well, you know, everyone’s always telling sicilians that we should put aside our differences and stick together. zampa and baldini would be doing all that.

If Spinelli wants to lay down and put out a BS side than my Napoli will surely take it and beat his freaking socialist loving fans by a 3-nil scoreline. Livorno has their entire MF with the exception of the flying Fillipi brothers out for the match either because of injury or suspension. So lay down, Livorno. Lay down. I’m happy to play Lazio in the round of 16.

I agree that the Coppa Italia is not nearly as well run as other cup competitions, and some changes are in order.
However, I have no sympathy for Livorno in this situation. Every year, a team has to set out its goals. I think it is fair to say that Livorno’s goal this year is probably staying up in Serie A (and if that wasn’t the plan before the season maybe it is time to reevaluate).
If you don’t care about the Coppa, field your Primavera team, roll the dice with the kids and stop bitching.

Martha, Zamparini and Baldini (would be a great name for a comedy-duo) already did team up. in the 2003-2004 season, Baldini was the coach of Palermo, but was fired in january after Zampa and him had a fight after a 3-1 loss tot Salernitana.

Steven, that is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard. I don’t suppose they actually, like, kicked and slapped at one another, did they? That would be too much to ask.
Francesco, that picture is horrifying, not helped by the apparently transgendered person next to him.
Totally agree with you guys about Livorno, if they don’t give a shit, don’t play the first time. It’d be great experience for their youth squad and, who know, they might win some games.

Rigano was apparently presented at Levante in the last few days, so I guess that’s over?
