Odds and Ends As We Laugh at Milan
By: Martha | September 25th, 2007
•Former Milan player Oscar Damiani, now a FIFA agent who somehow oversees his old club’s transfers, has revealed to the press that Milan decided mid-summer to stick with poor Alberto Gilardino after they had already made “positive contact” with strikers such as Luca Toni, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and David Trezeguet. Brilliant. (In case you’re not up on these things, Trezeguet has five goals in four games, while Gila hasn’t scored with anyone but his wife in months.)
•Going to Manchester to see Roma play them in the Champions League? La Gazzetta wants to make sure you enjoy your stay.
•Alongside Billy Costacurta, his fellow ex-Azzurri mainstay (of both the Italian and the Chelsea variety) Gianluca Vialli has now been thrown into the rumor mill for the QPR job in England. It seems when an hard-partying Italian buys a football club, he’s required to hire a countryman to be his manager. (No word from anyone on what current manager John Gregory — who The Fiver this morning eloquently called a “slick-haired failure-merchant” — thinks of all this.)
•Still hopelessly trying to improve his club’s reputation, Catania president Antonio Pulvirenti has announced captain Davide Baiocco will receive a fine on top of his two game FIGC suspension after Sunday’s sending off. The suspension is for the red card; the fine is for the throat-cutting gesture Baiocco threw at the referee as he left the pitch. Yeah, and you wonder why their supporters think they can act the way they do.
•Milan will never stop shopping for strikers, despite the presence of the Great Gila. The latest allegedly on their radar are the in-form Antonio Di Natale and Nicolas Anelka, as well as the club’s collective obsession Ronaldinho, for whom Silvio Berlusconi has allegedly set aside a cool €100 million, including €10 million/season for his salary. Mmmhmm. That’s not crazy at all.
•That whole “really rich Chinese guy wanting to invest in Inter” story is still floating around, this time with the addition that Massimo Moratti is willing to talk to the investor, Li Ka-shing (who happens to be the ninth-richest man on earth). According to the latest reports, Li would not only offer €140 million for transfers, but also instigate a complete clear-out of the club’s management team. [Insert your own unpleasant comment about Mancini here.]

more like Li Ka-ching! ooooohh bad joke! woohoo. just hadda throw that out there. and now, Milan is really disapointing me. Their striking is plain old terrible. They just can’t get goals, and it’s sad, really. And this 100 mil for ‘dinho, pure crap, I’m sure, since like you said Martha, it’s insane. But you know, apparently ‘Dinho has been out partying, taking tips from Adriano ; ] So, Barca left him off their starting line-up, and dropped Messi to a sort of CAM position behind the strike force, and they scored 3 goals, I believe, so ‘Dinho could be on his way out of there…

Jamie, you need to comment more, you’re always superbly mean and say things I wish I’d thought of.
Mele, I read that about Ronaldinho — perhaps it’s going around the Brazil camp? If Kaka is next to stay out all night drinking before matches, that’s probably a good sign the world is coming to an end.

I didn’t know that Heidi Klum’s baby daddy owned a football team. He was stupid to leave her by the way.

Leave Gilardino alone! He is a good lad. How can he regain his confidence back if everyone is cussing him?

I still maintain, if we borrow Inter’s goalkeeper and one functioning striker and add it to our midfield and defense, the city of Milano will be able to field one competent team. Barely. If no one gets injured.
Beyond that… Look, Ronaldinho is washed up, living on his reputation alone. Because of that, of course, I’m sure Milan would dearly love to buy him, furthering our goal of owning the entire Brazilian national team, only one of whom can actually play. Of course, should he come to Milan, the Milan Magic might work miracles on him, completely rejuvenating him and restoring his ability to play, Ã la — oh, wait, no one.
Speaking of Brazilians, how is the New and Improved Adriano working out for you, Inter?

How can he regain his confidence, Taib? Stick the ball in the back of the net, that’s how. Christ he needs to pull his shit together. I’m really surprised Milan didn’t add a striker. Anyone who watched them last year knew despite the CL title they needed to add some defensive depth (under 30 please) and get someone else to play up top. Instead they did….. uh, just what did they do over the summer besides screw around with Ronaldinho and get hosed on the Suazo deal?
This is Gila’s time to make it or spend the rest of his career in Siena or Livorno.Posted from

Angharad, Julio Cesar and Zlatan are in ridiculous form right now, perhaps a joint Milan team is the way to go.
And the truly sad thing about Adriano is that he’s miles better than he was this summer, and yet still useless. (Also, just so we’re clear: He’s the only one who says he’s improved. Well, he and his mom.)

The bad thing is supposedly we had a pre-agreement with Luca Toni and April and he was all set to join up in June but then Berlusconi canceled the transfer. I have no idea why. We needed a goal machine. Maybe if his name was Lucao Toninho….

Joe: Gilardino is a striker who scored 23 goals twice. All he needs is the confidence of those around him. It does not help when he does not even play on a regular basis. His confidence is gone. I think he should leave Milan.
