Of (Formerly) Porky Brazilians

By: Martha | September 10th, 2007

Back in the day.Things are very different these days for the Brazilian strikers on either side of Milan. Ronaldo, for his part, is both no longer fat (Who knew it was just a glandular problem?) and also desperately needed by his club. Adriano, meanwhile, remains both fat and an afterthought, though he may get to play this weekend, thanks only to the fact that choices one and two could be rested after a week of internationals.

Despite being embraced by his club, however, Ronaldo’s season debut is getting further and further off, thanks in part to a serious misdiagnoses of his injury by the Milan staff. The minor leg strain he picked up at the end of July has suddenly turned into a “serious tear,” and he could be out for at least another month, leaving Milan to carry on with their makeshift strike force. At the moment, Ronaldo is at home in Brazil, not (just) lying on the beach, but rather getting a treatment so sketchy it’s actually illegal in Italy — anyone who understands how “genetic” treatment can help heal muscle tears, feel free to share.

On the other side of town, meanwhile, things are so bad for Adriano that the press are now celebrating his achievements in training matches; if you listen to Channel 4, a hat trick in a friendly against the youth team is a sign he’s back. Never mind that Hernan Crespo had four goals in the game, or that it was so informal half the players were clad in sweatshirts and not wearing shin guards — goals is goals, people! Sigh.

Cheap hat trick or not, if David Suazo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are in fact rested this weekend when they return from international duty, Adriano will probably find himself on the bench simply by default. Baby steps.

Is there an article on channel 4 about the practice game? It sounds very interesting!

Ah, a muscle tear. I’m so relieved. *rolls eyes* Because whenever I see a sudden transformation from fat to fit combined with strange, lingering injuries that just won’t seem to heal, the word ’steroids’ comes to mind.

    Sorry about Adriano.
