Oh, and Speaking of Maradona …
By: Martha | November 7th, 2006
He’s coming back. No, really. According to a recent interview, when Juve and Napoli return to Serie A (they’re currently tied for fourth and sixth, respectively, in the very cramped Serie B table) next year, he’s going to “be at the party.” But not just as a crazy, partying fat man with mad footballing skills — oh no. In fact, Maradona claims he’s actually had talks with Napoli management about coming back in some sort of (at least vaguely) official capacity. Not only that, but when an undefined “great Napoli project” comes to its glorious fruition, former Napoli, Juve and Italy defender Ciro Ferrara will leave Juve and come work alongside Maradona at his old club. Sweet! I don’t know about you, but I welcome a world in which Diego Maradona has decision-making power — I’m telling you right now that world would be a hell of a lot more fun than the one in which we currently live.*
*You’ll notice I’ve carefully overlooked the part of the interview in which he says what he really wants to do is work with kids in Naples. Because, honestly, what’s more fun: Maradona nurturing kids, or Maradona throwing giant “YAY, WE GOT PROMOTED!” parties?

How is he going to fit it all in if he is coaching Honduras, hosting a cable show in Argentina and cheering like a mad man at Boca Juniors games? I hope Maradona never works another day in his life. The rumors are much better than reality.

Don’t forget the Cannavaro factor–he’s said basically everywhere that he’s going to end is career with Napoli and I read an article where he welcomed the idea of Maradona as manager of his old club.
That would be quite the attraction in Serie A in a few years: the Cannavaro brothers on the pitch beside each other and Ferrara and Maradona on the sidelines. I don’t know if it would be any good, but it would be an attraction.
