Oh Man Not THIS Guy Again… Welcome!

By: Julian | March 4th, 2011

Well that didn’t take long, did it? Shortly after you guys thought you had seen the last of me, I rise once again, like Marcello Lippi re-taking over gli azzurri in 2008. But hopefully, you know, I’ll be actually successful.

My name is Julian and I’ll be taking over blogging duties from Francesco. I’m sure everyone has quite a few questions about the switch, so I’ll try to answer as many as I can here. I’m also sure that Jorid is thrilled with this appointment given the comment he left in Francesco’s farewell post.

Post any other questions you may have in the comments section and I’ll be sure to respond.

So who are you? As I said, I’m Julian and I take over this blog with Francesco’s blessing. Cesc is a good pal of mine, and we both write articles together over at Sportshaze.com covering Serie A. I have extensive experience blogging. I was the blogger of the Italy WorldCupBlog for two and a half years, starting in July of 2008 and going until yesterday. I also do a weekly article at SerieAWeekly as well. Needless to say, I have much experience in writing about football and calcio especially, and I’m very excited to be on board.

What kind of posts do you like to write? In general, I like to treat the blog posts as if they were articles. I rarely use the first person, except in a post like this, and I’d like to think that my articles are both informative and interesting to read. I will be relying heavily upon feedback from you guys to ensure that this standard is maintained so please leave positive and constructive criticism on each post as you see fit.

One of my favorite fun posts to do is ā€œCrappy Lookalikesā€, a series I started on the Italy WCB. I’ll need your help for these as it’s tough to find lookalikes around the peninsula, and I’ve already gotten a fair few.

I’ll absolutely do my best to keep the board at the level that Francesco had it. My goal is to have a post up per day, though not all may be as substantial as others- I’ll vary it with polls, videos, etc. I do hope to have the top 5 calcio news stories of the day up on each post, as well.

Will you bring us free donuts? No.

What will stay the same from Francesco’s days? One thing I wanted to stress is that Calcio Thoughts will absolutely remain. Cesc was kind enough to give me the email so you can send them in the same way they were sent in before- calciothoughts[at]gmail[.]com.

How can we contact you with feedback? The comments section below is a great place, as I constantly monitor it. One other way you can reach me is via twitter. My personal twitter is @JulianWCB (though the name now needs changing). I’ll be more than happy to follow you back and chat about calcio or anything else. One word of advice- that being my twitter account, my club bias does tend to shine through rather strongly. On this blog I can guarantee that no club bias will exist, and I will do my best to cover all of Serie A and the lower leagues equally. On Twitter, I can make no such promise since it is my personal account.

Any other questions or thoughts? Let’s hear them! I’m very excited to be on board and I can’t wait to get this started, which I should with a proper post up tomorrow.

Calcio Thoughts...yes, that was my only concern. aside from your posts coming from a neutral perspective i just want to know which club you support. francesco made it very clear he was a Milanista. i only ask because i'm a relative newcomer to Serie A The Offside, 'bout 6/7 months.
I'm guessing since you and Francesco are friends you may have AC Milan in common, or you might represent the blue half of the city. A sort of Crudeli/Corno relationship!

When I stepped down, I was allowed to have a say in who would be my successor. I immediately thought of Julian. I'm confident he'll keep the Italy Offside high quality. Besides, it's not like he had much competition (There were a whopping 2 applications sent in!). Anyway, Julian will do a more than fine job. And just one wise piece of advice Julian: when in doubt, link to the Malesani video.

    In bocca al lupo cazzo!
    (I feel like Mr. Varidoiannis)

No donuts??.. Anyway, I hope to see some more sequel to this and this/a>, always enjoyed those. Welcome!

  • Its good to see you again! For those of use without twitter accounts, what is your club bias, out of curiosity? Also, as a suggestion, I very much enjoy the "caption this" posts that have been around and about every now and again, although I cant remember if you have ever had any. I do remember the "crappy lookalikes" posts very fondly, however, and am excited for more of those.

Alright, now that I've gotten your attention Julian, approve my previous comment and welcome again lol.

  • Waiting on Disqus approval from the higher ups my good sir.

  • Barely a few hours on the job and already don't know what to do?

    You're fired.

"Tags: Can't stad this jerk, I love this guy, Julian, New Regimes, Serie A"
    LMAO!

Calcio Thoughts question: Will Julian will live up to the expectations set higher than ever by Francesco or will he fail miserably at it?

  • I'm betting fail miserably. He seems like an ignorant jerk.

  • This guy is posting during the Roma game, he must really be committed...

No, seriously, he needs to be committed...

Welcome, now go watch the game...

  • I don't know, he's already gotten two comments, how bad can he be?

  • This guy seems like a real jerk

In all seriousness, welcome back after your 12 hour hiatus. I was starting to get worried over here.
