Holy Mother of God, Bobo’s Going to Fiorentina!
By: Martha | July 19th, 2007
You know, it’s rare these days for a transfer to happen truly out of nowhere. There are so many damn websites and newspapers spitting out rumors that almost everything has been discussed before it happens, and it’s almost impossible to be surprised by any names you hear. This one, though is a giant freaking surprise: Our beloved Christian Veiri is going to Fiorentina, ostensibly as support for their young strike force. Not only that, but it sounds like it’s pretty much done. [Excuse me for a second while I go try to calm down.]
Ok, I’m back. Not calm, but back. According to several different Italian websites, Sky Sports in Italy reported this deal last night, indicating that Bobo’s contract, much like the one he had with Atalanta last year, will pay him a very small based salary, this time with bonuses based on appearances rather than goals. Speculation is that Veiri will be used in Serie A as relief for Giampaolo Pazzini (who, everyone hopes, will be brilliantly productive as a regular starter) but will play more regularly for the club in UEFA Cup games; apparently the chance to play in Europe was one of the major things that drew Bobo to Florence. Assuming he passes his medical (which may or may not have already happened), he’ll be announced in the next couple of days, and will be at the club’s friendly this weekend.
Holy. Crap. Ok, rationally speaking, I can see it makes sense for the Viola to have a veteran striker on the bench so there’s less pressure on Pazzini, and the added depth with be important, particularly if the club go deep into the UEFA Cup. Also speaking rationally, I’m slightly worried about Bobo — assuming he’s still the insane partier he used to be, which may not be the case — being around Adrian Mutu, who’s finally grown up and stopped with the coke and porn stars. Really, the last thing Mutu needs is any sort of distraction, now that he’s learned how to do that whole adult thing, both on and off the pitch. I guess the club’s assumption is that the Romanian is a big enough boy to handle his own business, even if every breeze that blows from Bobo’s direction reeks of booze and supermodels.
(Irrationally speaking, of course, I’m running around the house screaming, with my shirt pulled up over my head. Sorry about that mental image.)

I’m happy, happy, happy that Bobo’s found a club and I’ll be able to watch him again next season. Martha - don’t worry about his influence and partying. He’ll be back in the family fold living in his mansion in Prato with his ever watchful mamma keeping an eye on him. (As an aside …. he looks ever so thin in that picture you posted of him, but hell, I’d play a tune on that ribcage…)

that picture is probably pretty old… hell its probably ancient…

Was there a rumor of this happening around the end of the Serie A championship? I thought I remember hearing something to that effect.
Nevertheless, this is pretty surprising. I hope the man has something to contribute and he doesn’t bring his previously sullen ways to Firenze. For his sake, hopefully Corvino and Della Valle don’t tap his phones and his stay free of drama.

You could be right, tmc — I don’t remember hearing anything, but I trust you on the Viola before I trust myself. And I’ve got my fingers crossed he doesn’t pout, too. If he really is signing as a backup, though, it’d be though to imagine he (or at least any rational person) would suddenly start complaining when he doesn’t play regularly.
The picture is from the Inter days. I say this with love, but it’s going to take him a hell of a lot of training to get back to that small of a gut.
Julie, I’m duly reassured regarding his behavior, thank you. Plus, he’s apparently engaged to that
childwoman he’s dating, and maybe that’s another sign he’ll behave.Posted from

Bobo, behave? Now that is funny. I have to say it’ll certainly make for more interesting drama. Fact is, Serie A is a more interesting place with Bobo in it. I’m just glad he isn’t on my team because he is so damn volatile he can turn over an entire dressing room. Does that make it now seven Serie A teams he’s played for? What’s the record anyway?

Jeez he’s got to grow up someday, Joe. Right? Right?! I think you’re right on — a bunch of teams, but seven in Serie A. That’s a lot but it can’t possibly be the record, can it? I’ll see if I can find that online somewhere, perhaps a goal will keep him focused.

I’m undecided whether or not I want Bobo to grow up. I have read with glee over the years about his so-called antics, his carousing with Pippo, Ronaldo et al, and marvelled at how he seems to be able to spend his summer vacation with woman after woman after woman. He has been good copy that guy, I can tell you. But … as he is returning to his Tuscan roots and his mother’s influence (see above), I hope she has a word in his ear about that lovely girl he knew - Elisabetta - and how marvellous it would be to settle down and raise a couple of bambini, and how this mature, dignified, beautiful woman who knocks the spots of his current 21-year-old skinny ****d squeeze would JUMP at the chance to …. Anyway, back to football - lest anyone think our Bobo to be fickle, lets not forget his 6 years - yes, 6 - years of dedicated loyalty to Inter and his 1.9 - yes, 1.9 - goal a game average over his “illustrious” ??? (thanks Morretti) career there. So there. Ner.

Channel4 has a funny story on what the Viola message boards are saying about Vieri’s arrival to La Viola:
http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/jul19i.htmlCompletely lacking any mention of coke or whores, these people are obviously reading the wrong forums. I pity the fools.

You know, I was wondering where Channel 4 was getting most of their news & rumors. Now we know: Internet message boards.

Yet another topless footballer photo Martha? Sure hope there is a special WAG in store for us this week.

I’m surprised Bobo hasen’t graced us with his comments yet; we could use his insight on his soon-to-be-blossoming relationship with Mutu, the club scene in Florence, and maybe the future of Tuscany’s drug traffic…

Those people are reading the WRONG sites. All the pages I read have stopped talked about Bobo and are freaking out about his hot, Strip the News hosting fiancee being in town.

Bobo probably had a heavy night, what with him having to start training soon — we should give him some time, I’m sure he’ll turn up eventually.
Julie, I fear our Elisabetta dreams are at an end, if the stories about him asking this damn Satto woman to marry him are true. Unless he has a history of breaking off engagements (which I wouldn’t doubt)?

Martha, you’ll have to forgive him for his poor decision with Ms. Satto. But it’s hardly unexpected. He is, afterall, half-French.

Martha - “that damn Satta woman” (love it) is often described in reports as Bobo’s ‘fidanzata’ which I’m led to believe in Italian means ‘unofficial fiancee’. So…. I’m not entirely convinced he’s actually dropped down on one knee and asked her to do the do. What could he possibly have in common with a 21-year-old? Plus … what on earth do they talk about? However, I am happy to be corrected (or not.. as the case may be). And Chris G - I note the ‘half French’ comment … but have you ever seen a picture of his mother in her prime. Stunning !! Which reminds me. Martha - do you know whether or not his parents are divorced? I thought I read somewhere that they were, which may influence his “commitment issues”. Sorry to everyone else for this becoming ‘the Bobo Gossip Show’ .. but Martha and I have a common interest ……..

I feel like we may need to put up a weekly What’s Bobo Up To? post in order for us to discuss his antics or swamp new pictures or something. Such a thing just might be necessary.
Julie, you make me feel better — I’m getting “fiancee” through google translate so I’m frankly shocked it’s even close to the actual meaning of the term. So there’s still a chance for him to get back together with the Hottest Freaking Woman Ever? Eeeeexcellent. If his mom can make that happen, we need to send her flowers, or something.
(I know nothing about the divorce thing, but I admire the way you’re going with this. Clearly research is in order.)

Matha - love the ‘Whats Bobo Up To?” idea. Just rewards for all the hard work you get up to with this site. Any information (erm, gossip) I get about our man will, of couse, pass straight on …….

Put aside your doubts are fears, it looks very likely that the Vieri to Viola rumor is true; keep your eyes open for a press conference tomorrow!

Oh, it’s definitely true (I pretty much wrote this on that assumption, but Prandelli confirmed today). WOO HOO!
