Pair of Lost Boys Set to Return
By: Martha | June 19th, 2007
Late last week, Benfica’s Juventus-owned Fabrizio Miccoli got into some weird brownies and started sending “messages of love” towards Palermo, specifically to the club’s nutso president, Maurizio Zamparini. While love for Palermo is quite reasonable, viewing Zampa as a “great president” is a sign of either clear confusion on the part of the player, or simply a bold-faced desperation to return to Italy no matter the cost to his dignity.
With the benefit of three days’ hindsight, it’s evident that Miccoli’s desperate, not confused: In an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss (I’m not making that up) today, the diminutive striker made clear his intention to leave Portugal for pretty much anywhere in Italy. As to where he wants to go, though Miccoli generously declared himself at Juve’s disposal (they do own him, after all), if they don’t want him the Italian said he rather likes the idea of becoming “a new idol” at Palermo Napoli. Well. Fickle bugger, isn’t he?
Over in England, meanwhile, Bernardo Corradi is making noises about coming home as well, though his departure from Manchester City is more likely to be greeted with relief than the sorrow with which Benfica fans are responding to Miccoli’s news. Since departing Lazio for Valencia (and Claudio Ranieri) in 2004, Corradi’s failed to settle in at any of his subsequent overseas destinations, be they in Spain or England, though he did perform well during his season on loan at Parma. It’s not surprising, then, that Parma — along with Sampdoria and Torino — is one of the teams his all-knowing agent Moreno Roggi is floating as a possible destination. (Or, if you prefer, one of the teams from which his agent is begging for an offer.) Additionally, according to Roggi, the reports of Corradi moving to either Rome or Lazio are complete crap, despite his history with the latter club. Just so you know.
And finally, speaking of England, I refuse to dignify this ludicrous story about Man U tracking Ibra with a response. Doh!

Maybe Udine should look at Miccoli, and/or Bernard.

Miccoli will definitely be wearing either a Palermo or Napoli jersey next season.
I think Palermo is still leading the race though because they have Barzagli to offer.

“A new idol”? I think this a bit much for Miccoli. But hey, one cannot be a successful athlete without having an ego, so hopefully it works out well for him.
I’d say he’d be better off at Napoli than Juve. If you look at his statistics, he’s had a rate of scoring about 1 goal every 3 games. Solid, not spectacular, but consistent. I’m not sure he can bring Juve the firepower they will need to secure a champions league position for the ‘08-’09 season.
As a Fiorentina fan, I’ll always be grateful for the goal he scored on the last day of 2005, saving the squad from a relegation. Of course, the later scandal put a bit of tarnish on that, but that isn’t his fault. Good luck to him if he does return to Italy.

I’m not a fan of any transfer that includes a Barzagli-trade, but it seems more and more inevitable as the opening of the market comes closer. If I was Zamparini, i’d put my foot down and let him go to Juve if they either give us Miccoli & Palladino, or Miccoli, Paro and De Ceglie.

Is it me, or is that bird taller than Miccoli?

I was just thinking that it looks to outweigh him, if nothing else.
