Palermo v Livorno: Crisis? What Crisis?

By: Martha | December 9th, 2006

SimplicioThat noise you heard earlier this afternoon, friends, was a collective sigh of relief escaping the lungs of Palermo fans. After a couple of bad weeks, capped by an utterly dreadful, selfish performance against Parma last weekend, the lads in pink rediscovered their poise and confidence today in comprehensively beating a fairly good Livorno side. And I think I speak for all of us when I say “Woo hoo!”, and “Thank god!”, and “Where has this been?”

After looking an utter mess last weekend and being uninspiring for a few weeks before that, the team picked up where their good form left off, controlling the game from start to finish and rediscovering that wonderful, slightly cocky attacking mentality where pretty much anything is an option. Amauri executed a completely outrageous flying kick, di Michele stopped pouting and was the skill merchant (Did I really just say that?) we expect him to be, and the Palermo midfield utterly dominated the game, all of which were awesome to see. They’re back! Everyone is back — Corini was good, the consistently under-appreciated Simplico was fantastic, and everyone was eager, running for the team rather than wandering aimlessly and playing for themselves like they did last week. Have I mentioned woo-hoo?

Next up: Roma at the Olimpico. Oh hell yes.
