Parma Now Accepting Applications
By: chris | March 10th, 2008
Mimmo Di Carlo has been canned by His Plumpness, Tommaso Ghirardi, making it the second time this year he’s been given the boot (I apologize for that). The Gialloblu have won one whole game since Christmas, and are hovering above The Zone by the hair of their chinny chin chins (-4 in goal differential, to be exact). They’ve got 11 games to get crackin’, play some D-Fence and beat the drop. Luckily, they don’t play Torino again. Luckily for them, anyway - bad for us.
No word as of yet on the official replacement. So if you’re interested, fax your resume and a detailed 10,000 word outline on how you plan to keep Daniele Dessena and Luca Cigarini in house next year to Francesco at the Parma Offside and he’ll forward it to the appropriate authorities. (And by “forward it to the appropriate authorities” we mean “rub it down with prosciutto so that Tommaso comes tumbling out of his office to open it up ASAP”.)
Which I suppose begs the question…..who’s next?
Gotta be Silvio Baldini, right? It’s like Catania has been shot downward out of a cannon from somewhere near the top of the table since Christmas - much like last year (when they were in 4th in January). He at least bought himself some more time with a 2-1 victory over Cagliari at home this weekend, but they’ve got Sampdoria away, home to Siena (who’s burning a little rubber at the moment), and then away to Atalanta. Their away form, quite frankly, blows (still lookin’ for a win outside of Sicily). 1-1-1 maybe? Before then hitting up unbeaten in seven Torino, Palermo, Napoli and then the Giallorossi in the Coppa Italia semis. (Of course, it may be that Coppa run keeping him alive.) Therefore, I’ve got my money on Silvio.
* - When asking this question, all coaches employed by Maurizio Zamparini or Massimo Cellino are removed from consideration.
