Today’s Adriano Destination? Parma, of Course.

By: Martha | August 24th, 2007

Pretty colors. Now that he seems relegated to fourth-choice in the Inter striker corp, the press are busy trying to find Adriano another place to play, even if it’s not entirely clear his agent is taking any such action.

The latest rumors have him returning on loan to Parma, the team with which he earned his (severely waning) reputation as a dominant striker. I realize this whole thing is probably a lie, but it sounds like a great deal all around: If there’s anywhere Adriano would be embraced eagerly it’s at Parma, and the team are not exactly drowning in experienced strikers. It’s a move that could mean regular appearances, and would give Adriano a chance to sort himself out away from the Big Club Spotlight, something that could only help his girth and sanity.

Today’s La Gazzetta claims Parma have made inquiries about a possible deal and, while there’s no way they could and/or would pay the Brazilian’s salary, there’s always the possibility of a Cassano-type deal, whereby Inter would assume a chunk of the responsibility in order to get the guy out of town for a while. In addition, Adriano would have to get over his apparent determination to play in the Champions League; one suspects the allure of a regular place would help ease the pain of that disappointment.

I’m almost kind of hoping Milan will spirit him off and put us all out of our misery. This has nothing to do with the fact that Ronie’s hamstring or thyroid or whatever has screwed us over before the start of the sesaon.

Um, why didn’t they sell him to Valencia again? Just wondering …

Adriano? Champions League? That must be a joke. He’s done nothing to merit a spot in the CL for the past what, three years? Inter really should’ve sold him off, tmc. He’s obviously surplus and has a long road to climb to get back to any type of consistent form. I’d be pushing the move as much as possible if I were Adriano. The night clubs in Parma can’t be all that bad, can they?

This could be an interesting move. Adriano goes on loan to a place he knows really well and is well loved. He tries to become the emperor again, and if successful, Inter have the emperor back in their hands. I have a feeling Inter are afraid to sell him off because they think he will wake up and become one the best strikers in the world.

I understand that sentiment Francesco, but at what point do you cut your losses? Moratti seems to be overly attached to/fond of Adriano, and he’s setting a terrible example at the club.

I don’t think I’d want a guy around who stays out too late, is hungover/skips training entirely, all while getting paid a massive wage and getting to play at a very prominent club with excellent prospects for winning trophies.

I just think he sets a bad example for the other players in your team. As long as you are in good with Moratti, you can do whatever you want, party, get out of shape, generally not take your job seriously and still get paid, A LOT. Sell his ass and send the message that it is put up or get shipped out. Who cares if you can’t quite match your own inflated valuation of the player - at this rate Adriano is a half step from being Cassano - a player that you can’t sell and have to pay most of his salary in order to get rid of him. Do you want it to come to that? And plus if they sold him to Valencia he can’t hurt them in Serie A, and there isn’t a huge chance of that happening in the Champions League.

Well tmc, you have just figured out what’s wrong with Massimo Moratti. Once Moratti gets attached to a player, that player is gold to him no matter what he does. Look at Recoba. What has he done at Inter the past 11 years? Sit on the bench, get injured, make a few sub appearances, and collect a hefty paycheck. But then again I could care less since I’m a Milan fan and laugh at all this.

Yeah Francesco, I’m a Fiorentina fan, so it doesn’t bother me that much either.

But it will be interesting to see if Inter can keep it together this year with the increased pressures of no points penalties, a full-strength Serie A, the injury to “Tutti Pazzi Per” Materazzi, an odd mix of characters in the dressing room, and of course the pressure of defending the Scudetto.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think Roma are the team to beat this year for the Serie A. I think Milan are probably the best bet to advance well into the Champions League. And I’m crossing my fingers that my boys can play well enough for the 3rd year running to get a top 4 spot and qualify for the Champions League, even if James Richardson wants to say that they have no chance because they “replaced Toni with Vieri”. Not exactly James, and they played much of last year (and had arguably their best form) without Luca.

You gonna do any predictions Martha - so we can look back and see how laughably wrong we all were?
