Poor, Poor, Adriano

By: Martha | December 10th, 2007

Two, two, two award for AdriOk, it’s official: I feel sorry for him now. Even while he’s busy over in Brazil, trying to sort himself out, the memories of how much Adriano sucks lately have lived on loud and clear in Italy. You know what’s coming, right? For the second year in a row, the big Brazilian is the proud winner of the Bidone d’Oro, awarded annually to the Italian player who is most crap.

But there is reason for optimism — last year Adriano took nearly 1/3 of the votes in thumping Ricardo Oliveira for the title, but this year he got just under 20%, not quite twice the number of votes earned by worthy adversary Nelson Dida, who took second in the race of shame. Behind Dida were two other Milan players: Ronaldo, who was third, and Oliveria who, despite being away in Spain now, is evidently well-remembered for his uselessness in the second half last season.

In slightly less depressing news for Adriano, he’s reportedly doing well in Brazil, where he’s being made better … stronger … faster, and will be meeting with an Inter team doctor tomorrow. He won’t be back in Italy at least until January, but his sabbatical could last longer, if necessary. (The press have stopped asking people at Inter about the rumors he’ll be headed to England on loan in the second half, but if they hadn’t given up, you could insert a steadfast denial here.)

You gotta give kudos to the RAI graphic designer. That photoshopped Adriano picture with the golden trashcan is absolutely priceless.
