Progress On One Contract in Turin, Or: Thank Christ, Rosina is Staying
By: Martha | October 5th, 2007
This morning, just as the rumors of his departure were really beginning to heat up, Channel 4 is reporting that Alessandro Rosina has agreed an extension with Torino. Woo hoo!
The deal will reportedly keep him with the club through 2011 and, most importantly, quadruple his salary: Rosina will now earn around €1.2 million/season which is what he had been demanding — this despite a report just yesterday that Torino chairman Urbano Cairo was refusing to offer more than €700,000/season to keep Italy’s own Pocket Rocket. (Hat tip to RomaChris and Ludovic Guily for the short guy nickname.) The raise is obviously a well-deserved one, and will make Rosina the club’s second-highest paid player, behind on-loan striker Alvaro Recoba.
While it’s hard to believe any at Torino thinks the agreement means Rosina will actually stay with the club until the contract’s ending date, it nevertheless removes a major distraction from the club, makes Rosina feel appreciated (always a good thing), and will hopefully at least allow Toro to hold on to him until next summer.
In other Turin news, things have gotten so bad in the Del Piero negotiations that the press are starting to throw Milan into the mix — m eaning they’re mentioning his name and, when Ancelotti says “Well, sure, he could come on a free. Why not?” they go into a frenzy. Well, I suppose you never know: He’s old, which works for Milan, still breathing — a plus — and healthy, which is more than we can say for a certain no-longer-fat Milan savior. Oh, and he scores goals sometimes, which would instantly make him Milan’s best striker.

Any word on the buyout clause? Rosina wanted 12m, I believe Torino wanted more - which was the big hangup.
I just need to know so I can get the funds together and mail a check to Rosella.

I’ve seen a ton of articles about it this AM, but nothing on the buyout yet — will update when it does, I promise. (Though please don’t be expecting any donations from me.)
