Right, So Who Wants a Cassano?

By: Martha | July 23rd, 2007

In better days.As you may have heard, Real Madrid are back in training. As you may also have heard, Antonio Cassano is sitting on his couch, sucking his thumb and raging against the injustice of life, because he wasn’t invited to camp. Wow, has that got to suck. It’s one thing to make whining noises, pound your fist and demand a transfer, but it’s quite another to have your team respond to those demands with glee, and then leave you sitting at on your butt while they train, even though you’ve not been sold. (And, you may recall, Cassano himself rejected the one good offer Real got for him.)

So, if there was any doubt before, it’s now officially gone: Cassano is on the move, and today the fun of guessing his most likely destination begins. Me, I would assume Italy is his first choice (having already rejected a move to Turkey, it’s clear he’s not interest in the Lucarelli-style exotic-ish route), despite the fact that his dream of joining Inter is never, ever going to happen, if only for striker volume reasons. He’s ludicrously young, and surely still holds a thought that he’ll be a regular in the Italy side; any idiot knows it’s awfully hard to re-establish yourself when you’re playing abroad. Additionally, despite his troubles at Roma, Italy is the place where Cassano became a star and, at this point, familiarity would probably be welcome.

There’s always going to be a market for a player of Cassano’s obviously ability, it’s just too bad he’s become so difficult to deal with that few teams are willing to take a chance on him. Whoever does so this time is either going to get really, really lucky and have a brilliant striker on their hands, or end up in such a horrible position that Cassano won’t be able to find work in Europe ever again. (Hello, MLS!) So far the summer, the most interest team has been Napoli, but that talk has cooled off to the point of silence in recent weeks. Genoa, too, were once involved in the rumors, and Milan were interested last winter, but it would take a change in their dressing room to allow a move for the genius pain in the ass.

Who wants a chubby Italian who loves to show his nuts off to the crowd? Sounds like someone that Moratti would love, he would take him under his wing like Recoba and Adriano, look how well thats gone.

well the problem is that even if he had grown up, no one knows about it because, madrid truly aren’t the best nurturers of rough diamonds… and it doesnt help to make fun of your coach on national television

What Italian team that is good enough that Cassano would agree to play for them is going to take a chance on a guy who has a track record of being such an epic pain in the behind? Because really, I think that’s the problem. Some team will always be willing to gamble on a troubled but occasionally brilliant player (see Barton, Joey) but Cassano seems to have his heart set on one of the big Italian teams.

Napoli would be the place for him…but I am beggining to wonder if Carlo cannot work some magic on Talentino.

K, do you really think so? Just to say they did something, or because they really want him, and Ancelotti thinks he can fix him?

    Gianfranco, would you want him?

well we need a fourth striker.. pippo, and ronnie are injury prone, so we definately need another striker… and we have tried to get every single able bodied striker in europe and since we dont seem to interested in paying 20 million for pato and for some reason not even a bit interested in rossi, this is the last available well known, young striker that we have been linked to..

also, galliani said he wanted to get him earlier this summer dependant on a dressing room vote, which ended up voting for “hell no” but since we cant seem to land another striker that vote may change pretty quickly…

Not to Milan. Please, just no! We need another striker, but please someone younger and uninjured and not a headcase.

In an unrealted note, have you featured Manuela Arcuri in the WAGs? Apparently, she shows up in relation to Coco…

Sorry to bring up JB. I’d forgotten you were a Newcastle supporter. (He apparently just broke a metatarsal in a friendly, so he’s out for 6 weeks. Not sure whether you’d consider this good or bad news.)

Ady, I have, yes. Coco’s almost as good as Bobo (possibly it’s all those O’s) for finding WAGs, though as far as I can tell the Coco well is dry. Those two are really letting us down these day when it comes to the ladies.

Ha! Typical Newcastle curse. No one can arrive at the club without getting injured, though it’s usually a leg problem — the foot is a new thing.

however, if anyone can fix cassano, its ancelotti…. if ancelotti can make inzaghi play for the team and can make ronaldo thin again… he can do anything!!!

Is he shouting that he can do anything? Now all he needs is the Morrison curls and some Peyote and it should be a hell of a season for Milan. That should go a long way to keeping people interested in the team.

BWAHAHAHAAA!! Paolo, it’s time to start writing letters — that’ll surely be the best PR idea they’ve heard all summer. (After “Pretend we’re spending a mint to buy a striker. Any striker!”)

I’ll write one. We can even petition a re-write of L.A. Woman to a song about their strikers and call it “Milan Wishes.” If you actually sing those lyrics to the tune its a nice fit.

*blinks* So why is it now that I am concerned about knowing enough to carry on an intelligent conversation around here?!

What is it we have here? Ancelotti is dressed in leather pants - problematic as that is - dancing about on top of a car, high on peyote, singing “Milan Wishes” to the tune of “LA Woman” and hypnotizing Cassano into not being quite so nuts… *wanders off dazed*

Oh my god I don’t think I’ll ever be able to look at anco the same again. Lol.

I can imagen those meeting they have where they were trying to decided on to get cassano or not (even though he refused to come) with Anco dressed in leather pants dancing on top of a random car in the parking lot high on peyote singing milan wishes,Berlu pretending to be hitler. Galiani sticking is finger repeatedly in a light socket like uncle fester (who he happens to have an uncanny resemblence to by the way), Inzaghi falling out of his chair and whinning compliang that it was a foul. Gila diving across the table every few minutes claiming that he was pushed. Gattuso running about like a rabid dog foaming at the mouth and poor Paolo M sitting there demanding that they all stop the crazyness and have a normal meeting. It would be like a three ring circus!
