Roma Dipping a Toe into the Transfer Pool?
By: Martha | March 27th, 2007
On this very slow news day, I’ve already seen at least two articles about Roma’s summer transfer targets — in this context, that’s a massive flood of stories!
According to an unsourced piece on our beloved Football Italia, the giallorosso are circling around the Sampdoria camp, hoping to woo both new international Fabio Quagliarella and Angelo Palombo to the capital. It’s hard to know how serious Roma’s interest is, though. I mean, who wouldn’t want those two? If you’re not Inter, Milan or Juve and you need to strengthen your squad, Palombo and Quagliarella — one a slightly out-of-form player with tons of promise, the other an emerging star — are exactly the kind of players your target. (Sadly, Ronaldinho and Christiano Ronaldo are a little of our your price range.) A Samp official insists he’s had conversations with Roma about the duo, but points out that buying them would be a bit complicated, what with Palombo just having signed a new long-term deal and Quagliarella being co-owned by Udine and all. So yeah — this may be a case of a club just gazing longingly at players but not actually taking any action.
Today’s La Gazzetta dello Sport, meanwhile, features a long interview with Cagliari’s David Suazo in which his many transfer options are informally discussed. In addition to last year’s discussions with Milan — the fools bought Oliveira instead — and the winter interest from Real, he also ponders a fantasy life at Inter (”[Ibra and I] would make one perfect brace. It has all which I do not have: with my speed it I would even be of aid.”), and discusses what appears to be Roma’s serious interest in him. Though Suazo handles the whole discussion with a classy, my-goal-is-to-help-Cagliari-achieve-safety approach, he’s unable to even verbally turn his back on the giallorosso, saying he’d love to play with Totti, and believes his pace would fit right into Roma’s mobile system.
Needless to say, come summer, none of them will end up in Rome and they all will deny any of these conversations ever happened.

Roma landing Q? That’d be brilliant. I’d finally pull the trigger on a Roma jersey, and possibly plan a vacation around a few games next season.

Quagliarella is good. He’s quite tan . Is he mixed?
