A News Roundup to Get Us Back on Our Feet
By: Martha | February 6th, 2007
I don’t know about you, but after all this pain and seriousness, I feel like a little gossip. Just a little bit.
•The Thierry Henry rumors are everywhere these days, from England to Spain to the US to (of course) Italy. Shockingly, however, the name associated with a possible move to Serie A is not the omnipresent Juve, but rather quiet little Inter Milan, who are reportedly sniffing around the great Henry. Supposedly both Barca and Real are preparing summer bids of £25 million for the player, but Inter are hoping the raves from Patrick Vieira about life in Milan might swing things their way.
•Despite interest from clubs such as Real Madrid, pretty, pouty Philippe Mexes claims all he wants to do is extend his contract with Roma and stay with his “large family” of teammates. Aw, isn’t he sweet? And mercenary? Like he’d say no to Real.
•Ronaldo scored, Ronaldo scored (in training)!
•Maurizio Zamparini, the awesome, perpetually pissed off president of Palermo, is mad at everyone right now, but he’s not getting any support for his fury. First, he (quite reasonably) attacked government ministers for introducing new regulations for football grounds. According to Zamparini, who is exactly right, “We don’t need new measures to avoid the violence of the Catania-Palermo derby, we just need to obey the rules.” Bingo. In addition to the government, El Presidente is also angry with Antonio Matarrese — the guy who said deaths are a natural part of football — and tried to force him to resign today in a meeting of team presidents. Sadly, Zamparini’s boys totally turned their backs on him, and he didn’t get a single vote of support. Doh!
•The Catania president? Not resigning anymore. Shocking, I know.

Thank you, Martha. I needed some football normality and a gossip round up (even without Juve) accompanied by a picture of an attractive, sweaty footballer (even though he’s not Italian) helps a lot.
