Saturday Night’s Alright (For Calcio)
By: chris | February 15th, 2008
Were it not for Fiorentina and Udinese, most fans could pretty much forget about Sunday this weekend and just clear their Saturday schedule (top of the table speaking, of course). Three games to be played with the Big Four all in action. And for those of you who struggle with math, that means two of them will be playing each other. (That’s why they pay me the big bucks, that type of insight right there.)
The top three will remain the same no matter what happens. Milan, however, can go from breathing down the Viola’s necks to rudely stepping in front of them in line, at least for a few hours or so. So we could even see a return of The Big Four in, well, The Big Four Spots. So we’ve got that to maybe look forward to. (Milan is running out of teenage phenoms to make their debut and save their ancient arses though; we’ll need to see what type of pre-teen magic Carletto is going to Houdini out of his arse this weekend.)
Oh yeah, and Roma - Juve. Some brief previews for your wandering eyes.
Inter v Livorno: I think it’s safe to say, no matter where you stand on the Nerazzurri, the most highly anticipated aspect of the game will be the refereeing. They haven’t had a “clean” game since the Mesozoic Era and the press hasn’t let up one bit. Another one pours gasoline onto the fire. Oh, and Marco Amelia will continue to audition for any team which ain’t Livorno FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. (I like to think of Marco - Amelia, not our Marco…or maybe him too - at home lying in a bed with 30 different teddy bears wearing shirts of the biggest teams in Europe while he cries himself to sleep.)
Marco’s Livorno preview.
Robert’s Inter preview.
Parma v Milan: Has anyone else noticed how fast after its inception, Ka-Pa-Ro went down in a devastatingly glorious blaze? I vote those six letters in that order are never mentioned here, or anywhere else for that matter, again. Or maybe Pato is really a Nerazzurri wolf if sheep’s clothing, internally sabotaging Milan with his bad karma. Feel free to spread that rumor around.
Anyway, back to the game. Milan can take 4th for a few hours, at least, and Parma can put a little more distance between themselves and Serie B. Lucarelli is prolly out with injury, Corradi is suspended, while Milan will be devoid of Brazilians. So if you like goals, don’t watch this one.
Francesco’s Parma preview.
Gianfranco’s Milan ramblings which include Parma.
Roma v Juventus: The last time Roma played someone in zebra stripes they got demolished by Siena 3-0. The last time Juve played someone wearing some red they drew 1-1 with future Serie B boys Cagliari. You know, for a Roma - Juve derby, this one looks awful unsexy…..but damnit, it’s Roma - Juve. Everybody hates everybody. Love it.
Robert’s Juventus preview.
My overly biased Roma preview.
It’s good to be a calcio fan this weekend.

Yeah, should be a great day of calcio.
Add that to the fact that we got CL right around the corner, and I’m foaming from the mouth.

Looks like a pretty exciting weekend. hopefully Milan will get the 4th spot and get ready to beat Arsenal next week. And as for the Roma - Juve game, im siding with Roma. First of all, im behind them to win the scudetto (actually, anyone but Inter). Second, I want Milan to take the 3rd spot.
